Facts of the Persecution

1. Persecution suffered by the whole family of Mr. Shen Changpin, a teacher from Wusong County, Baishan City, Jilin Province

Mr. Shen Changpin's family lives at the Dongsheng Forestry Center of Lushui River, Wusong County, Baishan City, Jilin Province. After graduation from college, Mr. Shen was assigned to be a teacher at Lazihe. Shen Changpin had suffered from poverty and illness ever since he was a child. He had experienced the full extent of frustration and bitterness that illness can bring. In 1996, Shen Changpin and his whole family started to practice Falun Gong. The whole family was healed of their illnesses at the same time. The family used to live on borrowed money. Gradually, they started to have their own savings and no longer worried about being short of money due to their medical expenses, as they no longer had this expense. Life became relatively comfortable for the family. Just when the family was starting to have hope for better living conditions and a happy day-to-day life, Jiang's regime began to carry out the persecution against Falun Gong. This man-made disaster brought new difficulties to Shen Changpin's entire family. As a result of the persecution, Shen's father died, his brother-in-law was sentenced to two years in prison, his elder sister was forced to quit her job and Shen Changpin himself was sentenced to three years of prison.

2. Suffering brought upon the whole family of Mr. Cheng Huazheng, a retired official from Anshun City, Guizhou Province

Mr. Cheng Huazheng is 62 years old. His family lives in the residential apartment complex of a local staple foods company at 52 East Hongqi Road, Anshun City, Guizhou Province. In July of 2002, Cheng Huazheng was seriously injured when a mob beat him up while he was trying to pass out Falun Gong information flyers. Security staff from the Huaxi Pubic Security Branch then sent him to the No. 1 Detention Center in Anshun City and detained him there. The specific unit where Mr. Cheng is being held is the 3^rd squad of the 5^th brigade in cellblock 8. There, Mr. Cheng has been suffering from brutal torture and assaults for a long time.

Cheng Huazheng's 24-year-old daughter, Ms. Cheng Mei, used to work in Xixiu District's Bureau of Municipal Construction in Anshun City. She was kidnapped and sent to a detention center. During the detention, Ms. Cheng's right leg was crippled as a result of torture. The bones in her leg were deformed and she has become extremely weak.

Cheng Huazheng's wife, Wu Guiyin, often receives threats from officials from the "610 Office", the Eastern Street Community Office, or the Eastern Street Police Station. They try to force her to write the so-called "Three Statements". They threaten Ms. Wu, saying that if she does not submit the statements, they will send her crippled daughter Cheng Mei to jail and discontinue Cheng Mei's salary, which is the only source of income for the whole family. Ms. Wu has been expelled from the Communist Party.
