Facts of the persecution

1. Zhou Dingren and Lei Minzhu brutally beat Falun Gong practitioner Fu Yifang in Jin City, Hunan Province

In the evening on March 26, 2003, Zhou Dingren, head of the Political and Security Division for the Jin City Police Department, Hunan Province headed a group of police officers and they broke into the home of Falun Gong practitioner Fu Yifang who is in her fifties. They abducted Fu Yifang and held her in a detention center for two months. Zhou Dingren and Lei Minzhu beat and kicked Fu Yifang and hit her with a broom. They tortured her until bruises covered her entire body.

2. Police officers in Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province pound nails into practitioners' bodies

In August 2004, police officers at Taoshan Police Department in Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province arrested more than 20 practitioners. They even tortured the practitioners' family members and forced them to say that they also practiced Falun Gong. They had to pay a 3,000-Yuan fine before they were released. They even pounded nails into the practitioners' bodies. They hammered nails into practitioner Yin Guiling's hands and back. She is currently being held at No. 2 Detention Center in Qitaihe City. The guards who participated in the torture include He Jinsheng, Cheng Xiushan, Zhao Tailong, Wang Yong, Yin Xiangdong and Ding Yihui.

3. Practitioner Gong Fenglan in Shuangqiao District, Chengde City persecuted

Practitioner Gong Fenglan lives in the Shuangqiao District, Chengde City. On September 23, 2004, three plainclothes police officers abducted her and sent her to the Luzhazigou Brainwashing Center. They searched her and took 300 of Teacher Li's articles from her. At 4:00 p.m., Liu Mingcheng from the National Security Division broke into her home. Three days later, they sent her to Dalaohugou Detention Center. The Shuangqiao District People's Court illegally sentenced her to three years in prison. The perpetrators held her in the Dalaohugou Detention Center. On October 20, 2004 they sent her to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Baoding.

4. Practitioner Gu Zhengfen in Chengdu City arrested by officers from Yunnan Province Police Department

Gu Zhengfen is 52 years old and is a retiree from the Wanding Economic Development District in Ruili City, Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province. She was illegally sentenced first to one year and later to one-and-a-half years of forced labor. The perpetrators are persons from the Chengdu City "610 Office," Fuqing Road Police Station and Qingbaijiang Police Department. She was brutally tortured at the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Zizhong, and her pension was withheld from her in violation of the law. On June 28, 2004, Gu Zhengfen was again abducted from home by police from the Fuqing Road Police Station. They ransacked her home and sent her to the Ruili City Detention Center in Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province. Currently, Gu Zhengfen has been placed under arrest and is accused of being "suspected to have political involvement."

5. Retired teacher, practitioner Li Liyi in Chengdu City had over 20,000 yuan of her pension withheld

Ms. Li Liyi is 60 years old and used to be an English teacher at the No. 50 Middle School in Chengdu City. In June 2002, officials from the Wangjiang Office in the Wuhou District transferred Li Liyi's pension from the school to the Wangjiang office without following any legal procedure or presenting any legal documents. They only gave Li Liyi 300 Yuan a month. A total of over 20,000 Yuan of Li Liyi's pension has been withheld in the past two years. Li Liyi went to the Wuhou District's "610 Office" and the Wangjiang Office and asked for her pension, but the lawless officials said she must write a "guarantee statement" to give up Falun Gong before she can get her money back.

6. Police officers Wei Dong and Liu Yong in Lanzhou City persecute Falun Gong

Around 8:00 p.m. on June 16, 2004, police officers abducted Falun Gong practitioner Liu Xiuying in Lanzhou City and was sent her to Section 26 of the Lanzhou City Police Department. Police officers Wei Dong, Liu Yong and others tortured her with the Tiger Bench for two days and two nights. Liu Yong constantly kicked her face and body. Then the perpetrators sent her to a detention center. Several days later, officers from the public prosecutor's office came to the detention center. Liu Xiuying learned Liu Yong and Wei Dong had filed a lawsuit against her and practitioners Zhang Minghai and Tian Juhong. After she clarified the truth to the public prosecutor, the lawsuit was returned to Section 26 of the Lanzhou City Police Department. The perpetrators re-filed the lawsuit and it was again rejected. They filed a total of three times and were rejected three times. The prosecutor ruled that the practitioners are innocent and must be released. The verdict was issued over three months ago, but practitioners Liu Xiuying, Zhang Minghai and Tian Juhong are still being detained.

7. Practitioners Li Jianhua and Su Xiuyun in Zhoukou City, Henan Province abducted and illegally sentenced to forced labor

On the afternoon of September 17, 2004, Huang Jinqi, a division head at the Shabei Police Department in Zhoukou City, Henan Province ordered officers Wang Yong and Wang Wei to abduct practitioner Li Jianhua, an outstanding teacher at Zhoukou City Grain Technical School. On October 19 they illegally sentenced him to one-and-a-half years of forced labor. In October 1999, Li Jianhua had gone to Beijing to appeal and was sentenced to three years of forced labor. He was cruelly tortured at the Kaifeng Forced Labor Camp. He resisted the evildoers and walked out of the labor camp in an open and dignified manner in September 2002. Right now his wife is studying in another city and their 12-year-old daughter is forced to live with her grandparents.

On September 18, 47-year-old practitioner Ms. Su Xiuyun was reported when distributing truth-clarification flyers. She was abducted and sent to the Zhoukou Detention Center in Henan Province where she is still being held.

8. Practitioner Ren Xiaojia illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor in Datong City, Shanxi Province

On the morning of September 9, 2004, practitioner Ren Xiaojia was reported when distributing truth-clarification flyers in Wangcunkuang, the Datong Mine Bureau. Officers from the Wangcun Police Department abducted her and sent her to the Datong City Mine Bureau Detention Center. Ren Xiaojia held a hunger strike and fell unconscious on September 13. She showed symptoms of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and rapid heart rate. The police released Ren Xiaojia on parole on September 14, 2004.

After her release, they continued to monitor Ren Xiaojia. Around 11:00 p.m. on October 19, 2004, officers from the Wangcunkuang Police Department broke into Ren Xiaojia's dry cleaning store. They abducted Ren Xiaojia and sent her directly to the Taiyuan Women's Forced Labor Camp in Shanxi Province before illegally sentencing her to three years of forced labor. In the evening, Ren Xiaojia's husband returned home and called the police department. He was told that she was sent to the Taiyuan Women's Forced Labor Camp. The next day, police from the Wangcunkuang Police Department went to the dry cleaning store and demanded money from Ren Xiaojia's family, claiming the detention center paid 140 Yuan in medical expense for Ren Xiaojia. Ren Xiaojia's husband replied, "If you knew she was sick, then why did you send her to the labor camp?" They then left without saying another word.
