Facts of the Persecution

Ms. Zhao Wenjie

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhao Wenjie was an employee of the Chengdu District People's Liberation Army. Because she practiced Falun Dafa, her employer forced her into a brainwashing class in 2002. To further pressure her into giving up her faith, he forced her husband to divorce her. She retired from the army in 2003. Sometime later she gave a Falun Dafa truth clarifying VCD to an old colleague, but the colleague reported her to the authorities. The army arrested her and sent her to the Nanmusi Labor Camp for one year. She never gave in and walked out of the labor camp with dignity after she completed her sentence. A day after her release, the army arrested her at her home and put her under long term surveillance.

The Zhangshi Labor Camp

The Zhangshi Labor Camp in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, is a notorious living hell for torturing Falun Dafa practitioners. At the end of December 2003, devoted Falun Dafa practitioners, Mr. Li Tiekun, Mr. Wei Changchun, Mr. Guo Dianhui and three other practitioners were tortured in order to "transform" them. In April 2004, police tried another round of mandatory brainwashing with violence against Mr. Qi Like, Mr. Jiao Guolian, Mr. Liu Pengling, Mr. Zhang Jia-an, Mr. Wang Shungeng, and several other practitioners. They used electric batons, kicking and beatings, hanging them up by their handcuffs, sleep deprivation, and long periods of motionless sitting, and squatting, etc. Policeman Shi Fengyou broke practitioner Jiao Guolian's two front teeth. Practitioner Liu Pengling had two deep wounds on his wrists, because he was hung up by handcuffs for a long time. Many practitioners had scars from being shocked with electric batons all over their mouths, chests, backs, buttocks, and thighs. Practitioner Wang Shun-geng was forced to sit in a squatting position for fifteen days and deprived of sleep the last six days because he refused to be brainwashed. Police extended the terms of practitioners Mr. Li Manxin and Mr. Zheng Shoujun, because they refused to give up their faith. Police involved in these tortures were: Shi Fengyou, Mr. Song Baishun, Mr. Chen Wei, Mr. Ma Zhigang and team leader Mr. Yu.

Ms. Cui Shulan

Ms. Cui Shulan is 43 years old and lives in Xiaowopu Village, Siguanyingzi Town, Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province. After she started practicing Falun Dafa in February 1997, her health greatly improved. Between March 2, 2001, and February 27, 2004, (almost three years), she was at home less than 6 months, because she was arrested twice and held at the Police Substation, detained three times, and finally served a term in the Masanjia Labor Camp. On March 2, 2001, the first time she was arrested, many police attacked her. Practitioners went on a hunger strike on March third and fourth. To stop the strike, police attacked them by dragging them out by the hair or arms. Many practitioners' hair was pulled out and they had bruises all over their bodies. After she was released, the police kept harassing her. She wrote a letter to the police to clarify the truth, but they arrested her again, and extorted money from her. On December 18, 2001, she was arrested and sent to the brainwashing class, where police cuffed her onto a bed and deprived her of her of sleep. Police would not turn on the heat or give her enough water. Inside Masanjia Labor Camp, she was tortured with motionless standing, squatting or sitting on a small stool for long hours, and deprived of sleep for nine days. All the physical tortures, plus psychological harassment from collaborators, brought her to the brink of a nervous breakdown.

Mr. Zhou Mengxu Died

Mr. Zhou Mengxu is 35 years old, and lives in Zhangjia Village, Hongsheng Township, Xinbin County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. He and his wife started practicing Falun Dafa in 1997 and lived a peaceful, healthy life thereafter. On January 17, 2001, Mr. Zhou was arrested by the County Political and Judiciary Committee and detained fifteen days in the County Detention Center, where his finger was burned until it was black. Because he firmly believed in Falun Dafa, he was sentenced to the Wujiapu Labor Camp in Fushun City, Liaoning Province. He was fined and released in July 2001. Although he was released, he suffered a mental collapse and lived in terror of the persecution. He died on February 21, 2002.

Ms. Song Mei's personal account

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Song Mei is from Songyuan City, Jilin Province. She remembers: "On February 10, 2002, Chinese New Year's Eve, my husband and I were hanging up banners, when we were both arrested by policeman Sun Jifeng. My husband escaped, but I was taken to the substation, where I was interrogated overnight. I did not cooperate with them. They put me in handcuffs and ankle shackles, then attached me to the heating pipes. They sent me to the Fuyu County Detention Center the next day, and tortured me with the "Back Cuff Big Hang Up (1)," and slapped my face. Director Liu Liguo, who told the police to put ankle shackles on me, has since met his retribution. After more than 40 days in detention, they sentenced me to the Changchun City Women's Labor Camp for three years."

Xinglongshan Brainwashing Class

Practitioners have been tortured in the "610" Brainwashing Class held in the Xinglongshan region of Changchun City. Ms. Li Zhiling was detained in the Heizuizi Labor Camp in November 2000, tortured, and had her term extended an additional year because she refused to give in. The labor camp said she will not be released unless she accepts the brainwashing and have sent her to the brainwashing class again. In March 2001, Mr. Zhang Jian was sentenced to three years in the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp. Because he would not cooperate with the evil brainwashing, police sent him to the Xinglongshan Brainwashing Class for another round of torture in March 2004. He has been there seven months and is not allowed any visitation from his family. He is required to pay excessive fees to pay for the "class." Ms. Wang Guiqin was detained for two years after the large roundup in March 2002 in Changchun. Because she refused to give in, she was sent to the brainwashing class at the beginning of this year and sentenced to another two years in a labor camp.

(1) "Back Cuff Big Hang Up"- The hands are first cuffed behind the back. The person is then hung up by the handcuffs to a metal bar, and the bench or stool is then kicked out from under the practitioner's feet. The wrists must sustain the practitioner's full bodyweight, which causes instant bleeding and is extremely painful.
