Facts of the Persecution

Ms. Liu Ying, 19, her father, Liu Jianbao, and her mother, Peng Fubin, are all Falun Dafa practitioners. They live in Shuangfeng Village, Baidishi Town, Qidong County, Hunan Province. Both her parents were detained and beaten until they passed out, and her mother was sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp. On September 8, 2000, police from the Baidishi Substation arrested her and her parents, and held them at the Qidong County Detention Center, where police slapped her face hard, pulled her hair, beat her with their fists, and kicked her. They also hung her up in the air from the window frame by her handcuffs. She was detained eighteen months, and was released on March 10, 2003. The police charged her 1500 Yuan (1) for food, plus a 2000 Yuan security deposit (police would confiscate this money if she failed to obey the police).

Mr. Zhang Shengfa, 52, and his wife cultivate Falun Dafa. They live in Dayuan Village, Guanjiazui Town, Qidong County, Hunan Province. After July 20, 1999, when the persecution began, the Qidong County Police Station instructed He Zhengrong (male), the Director of Guanjiazui Town Police Substation, and Zhou Hui, with others to arrest Mr. Zhang four times. They sentenced him to two years in prison. Zhou Hui extorted at least 4,120 Yuan from Zhang, and interrogated Zhang and his wife using various torture methods several times.

Police Director Li Xuejun (female) from the Women's Ward at the Gaoyang Labor Camp broke her leather shoe when she kicked Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Yuzhen, a 50 year old factory worker from Beijing. Several police shocked her continually with electric batons for three to four hours. Ms. Liu passed out, and suffered a loss of her bodily functions. She was transported to the hospital for emergency treatment because of a heart attack. Another Falun Dafa practitioner, Ms. Song Guixian, from a rural area, is in her 40s. Police shaved her head, tortured her with the tying the ropes torture (2) nine times. They also deprived her of her right to use the toilet, and forced her to brush her teeth with urine. They also stuffed dirty sanitary pads into her mouth, and poured noodles down inside her shirt. Falun Dafa practitioner Ms.Wang Chunmei, from Tangshan District, Hebei Province was tortured in the Gaoyang Labor Camp for ten months. Police deprived of her right to sleep for eighteen days and nights, and they shocked her with electric batons if she closed her eyes. Police locked her in a wet and dark, mosquito infested cell in the summer, and put a snake and lizard inside her clothing.

Notes:

(1) Yuan is the Chinese currency. The average monthly salary of an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan.

(2) The police tie the practitioner up with a thin rope, circle the rope around his neck, and tie his hands behind his back. Then the police use all the force they can muster to tighten the rope. The rope becomes tighter and tighter around the body of the practitioner, and makes it more and more difficult for him to breathe. The pain is so intense that the practitioner sometimes loses control of his body functions. There are instances when the rope was tightened enough to break a practitioner's arm.
