Re: Belgian Falun Gong practitioners prepare a complaint against Jiang Zemin, former leader of the Chinese communist party

Dear........

Falun Gong has been practiced in Belgium since 1996. During the past seven years, more and more Belgian people have discovered the blessings brought about by this practice. Falun Gong is a meditation practice, a cultivation way, which originates from China and is based on Truth, Benevolence and Tolerance. In several Belgian cities, volunteers have established Falun Gong practice sites where everybody can come to learn the exercises and exchange ideas with others, free of charge and without obligation.

In China however, where Falun Gong became very popular in a very short period of time, Jiang Zemin, the previous leader of the Chinese communist party, decided to outlaw Falun Gong in 1999 and to start a campaign aimed at the destruction of Falun Gong. The great popularity of Falun Gong, the fact that numerous members of the communist party and the Chinese army practiced Falun Gong and the personal jealousy and lust for power of Jiang Zemin himself, all lead him to declare Falun Gong as an enemy of the state and to start a ruthless campaign of persecution and destruction against Falun Gong and its practitioners.

On the night of July 20 1999, tens of thousands were jailed in the darkness of the night. Now, more then four years later, the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is continuing undiminished and hundreds have been killed, thousands have been illegally sentenced and hundreds of thousands have been deported to labor camps. Once it became clear that Falun Gong in China could not be easily destroyed and Falun Gong practitioners all over the world asked for more and more attention to be paid to the inhumane persecution in China, Jiang Zemin also started to aim his attacks towards practitioners outside of China: in Belgium, just like in other European countries and in the United States, Canada and Australia, people are being harassed by the Chinese government, names are being put on blacklists, attempts are being made to restrict freedom of speech and assembly and massive defamation campaigns are being orchestrated to attack all Falun Gong practitioners and to also depict the Belgian Falun Gong practitioners as negative people. The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners has become a worldwide affair, in which direct victims have been made in many countries.

Falun Gong practitioners in more than 60 countries where Falun Gong is being practiced have, since the beginning of this persecution and ever more emphatically, organized peaceful activities and protests to end this persecution and to safeguard their fellow practitioners in China against an even crueler fate. An appeal has been made all over the world to the media, politicians, NGO's and all people with a kind heart to stand together with us to end this persecution. We traveled all over the world, organized parades, held candle light vigils, went on appeal marches, collected signatures, wrote letters, distributed flyers, made telephone calls, sent faxes and even took legal measures.

Following the practitioners in the United States, Canada, France, Italy and many other countries, Belgian Falun Gong practitioners are now also preparing to launch legal steps against Jiang Zemin. Jiang Zemin is personally responsible for the persecution of Belgian Falun Gong practitioners and for the attacks on their freedom. As in the case against Jiang Zemin in Illinois of the United States, in Belgium preparations are being made to hold Jiang accountable for genocide, crimes against humanity and torture.

The new Belgian law on genocide offers a platform to hold anyone who persecutes inhabitants of Belgium accountable for his actions. Within the framework of this law, the Belgian Falun Gong practitioners want to hold Jiang Zemin accountable for his crimes against humanity.

A case against Jiang Zemin is not a political statement. It is a case that fits within the original goals of the Belgian law on genocide: bring those who form a threat to humanity and to Belgian citizens to justice. A case against Jiang Zemin is not a case against China. Neither China nor the Chinese government is responsible for the persecution of more then one hundred million Falun Gong practitioners in the world. It is Jiang Zemin who is trying to involve a complete nation and the government of that nation in his personal battle against Falun Gong. Finally, a case against Jiang Zemin is not a case to bring Belgium or the Belgian government in a difficult position. It is a case to protect the interests of the Belgian Falun Gong practitioners and of the practitioners all over the world. In this way, the Belgian law on genocide can be used for what it was created by the Belgian authorities for: to protect human rights and to safeguard what is good in this world; to promote Truthfulness, Benevolence and Tolerance.

We thank you for the attention that you dedicate to this subject.

Respectfully,

In name of the Belgian Falun Gong association,
