Eyes shut, a UF computer engineering graduate stands alone on the grass just outside the Reitz Union, holding his tanned arms out in front of himself as if holding a large ball. The sun beats down on his dark skin, and sweat drips from his Ray Romano haircut.

But despite the blistering heat, he appears tranquil and carefree. Not even the bugs stirring in his face or squirrels racing across the grass near him can upset his concentration. All of his attention is focused on his Chinese meditation music playing from the small tape player below him.

Other people walk by, taking quick glances at him. They try not to stare.

Suman Srinivasan, 22, is enjoying the luxury of basic human rights by practicing Falun Dafa, a way to improve one's mind, body and spirit through meditation, exercise and teachings from ancient Chinese culture.

However, according to material printed by Falun Dafa practitioners, those in China, where Falun Dafa originated, aren't so lucky. They're interrogated, tortured and even killed on a daily basis for participating.

"It feels strange to me that that's happening in China," Srinivasan said. "I'm quite happy to be here and enjoy the freedom. Anyway we can let more people know is a great help."

Srinivasan hands out magazines and brochures loaded with details on what's recently happened in China and the benefits of Falun Dafa.

Falun Dafa, which has received over 700 awards and proclamations, has been honored for its moral teachings and positive effects on better health

For Srinivasan, Falun Dafa helps him cope with life and stress and sleep at night.

"I wasn't able to sleep and felt tired throughout the day," Srinivasan explains in his Indian accent.

Now, his headaches have left, and it's easier to fall asleep.
