To celebrate World Falun Dafa Day and the 11th anniversary of Dafa being introduced to the public, on May 13 and 14 local Dafa practitioners hung Dafa truth clarifying banners, painted words on walls, hung small flags, and posted flyers for everyone to see. [Note: Without access to any typical means of communication such as newspapers, magazines, TVáor radio, Falun Gong practitioners have resorted to many creative and sometimes unusual methods for raising awareness among Chinese people about the persecution.]

[Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Many Dafa Practitioners Are ArrestedOn September 26, 2002, Dafa practitioners Hou Shuhua and Zhang Tieping (a couple) were arrested (their address is Building 100, Chang Anli, Guta District, Jinzhou City). Their relatives paid 25,000 Yuan [Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 Yuan] in extorted fees, yet Hou was illegally and secretly sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment and Zhang was sentenced 3 years.
In the afternoon of May 14, 2003, Dafa practitioner Pei Yufeng (female) from the Taihe District, Jinzhou City was illegally arrested at her work place (a family business) by police officers from the Taihe Public Security Bureau branch.
On May 12, 2003, Dafa practitioner Zhang Yun, an employee of Jinzhou Heavy Machinery, was illegally arrested by police officers from the Taihe Public Security Bureau branch.
In early May, 2003, Dafa practitioner Li Yajuan (female), an employee of Nuerhe Textile Mill, and Li Hui were illegally arrested at the gate in front of Taihe High School.

Chi Hongying and Zhang Yuhua (both female Dafa practitioners) were arrested in Nanjing city at the same time in 2002. Their families are very worried because they have not yet heard any information about them.

[Shenzhou City, Hebei Province] Head of the "610 Office" Orders Illegal, Large Scale Arrest of Dafa PractitionersZhang Jiantao, head of the Shenzhou City "610 Office" [a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches] ordered police officers to start a new round of persecution of Dafa practitioners. On May 12 and 13 many Dafa practitioners were illegally arrested and their homes searched. Some of them were arrested while working in the fields on their farms, and others were arrested while visiting relatives or friends. According to witnesses, the brainwashing center is not able to hold the number of Dafa practitioners that were arrested. Police are considering sending them to detention centers.
It's believed that a Chinese couple who are Nigerian citizens were also arrested while staying in the home of a relative who is a Dafa practitioner. The couple was in China to attend the Chinese Goods for Exportation Exhibition at Guangzhou, but is unable to go back to Nigeria because of SARS. They were arrested even though they are not Dafa practitioners. The "610 Office" is still actively persecuting Dafa practitioners. [Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province] Two Dafa Practitioners From the Jiaozhou City Radio and TV Broadcasting Bureau Are Arrested, Their Employer Is Forced to Pay 50,000 YuanDafa practitioners Pang Fang and Gao Xufang, female employees of the Jiaozhou City Radio and TV Broadcasting Bureau, were arrested in Jiaonan City while delivering Dafa truth-clarifying materials in March 2003. They are still being detained at the Zhangjiatun Brainwashing Center organized by the "610 Office." Police officers in Jiaonan city who arrested the two asked the Broadcasting Bureau to pay 30,000 Yuan as a bonus to the police and 20,000 Yuan to the Jiaozhou City "610 Office" to cover the costs of detaining the two Dafa practitioners.
