Re: Mrs. Pirjo Svensson of Sweden

His Majesty,

On this day I am honoured with the task of representing Swedish Falun Gong practitioners by writing to His Majesty because our friend, Pirjo Svensson, is imprisoned for the 17th day in Bangkok.

Mrs. Pirjo Svensson, 44, a Swedish citizen, nurse and Falun Gong practitioner, was staying with her husband while he was working in Thailand. At 8 a.m. on 29 April, police officers searched their hotel room. They confiscated material on human rights and the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Although Pirjo has not committed any offence, the police have revoked her visa and forced her and her husband to leave Thailand. When Pirjo refused to be deported without reason, the police locked her up in a jail cell with 90-100 other people.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a traditional health, moral and spiritual improvement method appreciated by millions of people in more than 60 countries. After the method attracted millions of people in China, the former head of the Communist party, Jiang Zemin, banned it in 1999 because of jealousy and totalitarian paranoia. Now Jiang Zemin is extending the persecution to your country by spreading fabricated stories and lies about Falun Gong practitioners and by pressuring Thailand to persecute innocent people.

In China, Falun Gong practitioners have been met with illegal arrest and imprisonment -- often resulting in death through torture, abuse in mental hospitals, and long jail and labour camp sentences without trial. Women are raped while imprisoned, children are separated from their parents and deprived the right to attend school, and people have lost their jobs and fled their homes, tearing families apart. To date we have documented more than 690 cases of Falun Gong practitioners being tortured to death whilst hundred of thousands have been sent to labour camps. Due to the censorship and a blockade on news and information leaving China, the actual death figures are feared to be much higher.

Currently, with the help of human rights lawyers and legal experts, Falun Gong practitioners in USA and Europe have sued Jiang Zemin and several top Chinese officials, for crimes ranging from torture to genocide. The crimes committed by Jiang Zemin and his Gestapo-like 610 offices are comparable to those committed by Milosevic and Pinochet.

In view of these facts, our kind-hearted friend Pirjo spends some of her spare time exposing the crimes committed during this persecution, hoping that kindhearted people will help Falun Gong practitioners in China. She is not against the Chinese government or anything related to China.

Pirjo s situation must have been a mistake resulting from misinformation. We are hopeful that His Majesty, who has pledged to rule with righteousness, will help Mrs. Pirjo Svensson be released and permitted to return to her anxious husband, family and friends.
