(Clearwisdom.net) On March 20, 2003 at 12 am, 8 hours before the Chinese government's show trial of US citizen and Falun Gong practitioner Dr. Charles Li, Dafa Practitioners from Dallas, Texas held a rally at Kennedy Memorial Square in Dallas and called for immediate action to rescue Charles Li, who had been detained for 57 days.
The Falun Gong representative pointed out in his speech that since July 1999, the Chinese government has never followed the law but instead resorted to brutal persecution and suppression. On August 24, the Jiang regime ordered all lawyers not to defend Falun Gong practitioners. In 2001 it made a slight revision that allowed government appointed lawyers who represent the government's position to defend Falun Gong practitioners, essentially making their trials into show trials.
He further pointed out that the Chinese government's actions disregard the United Nations declaration of human rights, disregard the Chinese constitution and basic human rights, and encroach upon people's most basic right--the right to live.
Dr. Charles Li's friends were also present and expressed their shock and concern over Charles's arrest.
People in attendance held a petition drive and appealed for people to stand together to rescue Charles Li.
