According to a report from Falun Dafa Information Center on January 21, 2003, police in Myanmar arrested Chan Wing-yuen, a 71-year-old Hong Kong citizen for unfurling a banner that reads "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" in Rangoon, Myanmar's capital city. As a result of pressure from Jiang's regime, on January 31, 2002, the Myanmar government secretly sentenced Mr. Chan to a heavy term of seven years in prison. The Global Mission to Rescue Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners has made an urgent call for the immediate release of Mr. Chan
Mr. Chan was visiting relatives in Myanmar and was translating the main text of Falun Gong, Zhuan Falun. After learning that Jiang would visit Rangoon, he unfurled a small banner on the road leading to the airport. Prior to Jiang's arrival, the police arrested Mr. Chan. Representatives from the Chinese consulate in Myanmar and Burmese police authorities made repeated demands that Mr. Chan write a "guarantee statement," promising to give up Falun Gong, but Mr. Chan has steadfastly refused. It was learned that Mr. Chan persists in his faith even in prison, and still practices Falun Gong.
Mr. Chan, an elderly man, was given a heavy sentence of seven years simply because he unfurled a banner reading "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." Something like this is unheard of in civilized society, but in these troubled times, unprecedented things continue to happen one after another. The Chinese government, through its consulates and embassies, applies pressure on world governments to help it in its unconscionable attempts to exterminate Falun Gong. History has shown us that accomplices of evil are unable to escape punishment, under the laws of man and under the laws of the heavens.
In China, among the early Falun Gong practitioners, many were old and sickly retirees. As the practice of Falun Dafa quickly grew and touched people's hearts, people from all walks of life joined in . Amid the persecution launched by the nation's leader Jiang Zemin, many elder practitioners suffered brutal torture. During the past three years, out of 557 practitioners whose torture-related deaths have been verified, 155 of them were elderly practitioners over 50 years old. Among them, 91 practitioners were between 50 and 59 years of age, 59 were between 60-69 and 5 were over 70.
Recently, Yu Xiaoru, a 72-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Fengjie County, Chongqing City was arrested for exposing Jiang's persecution against Falun Gong through flyers. Xinhua News Agency slanderously claimed Yu Xiaoru was "instructed" by Taiwan Falun Gong practitioners and participated in "damaging activities." The Taiwan Falun Dafa Association's coordinator Chang Ching-hsi said it's a shame that the 72-year-old Yu Xiaoru received the indictment. He also said this old man hoped to do exercises to improve his health, an activity that would be respected and encouraged in a free society. China, however, accuses him of "participating in activities damaging to society." Such slanderous accusations appear indeed base and nonsense to all people of conscience. Another group of people suffering direct or indirect persecution in China are the children. Wang Lixuan, a 27-year-old Dafa practitioner from Nangou Village, Sicou Town, Qixia, Yantai City, Shandong Province was arrested and detained for appealing for Falun Gong several times. On November 7, 2000, Wang Lixuan and her eight-month-old son Meng Hao were both tortured to death in the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Beijing. According to the autopsy report, Wang Lixuan's neck vertebrae and her hip bone were fractured, her cranial bones had caved in and a needle was found in her lower back. Meng Hao had two deep scars around his ankles, two purple marks on his head and blood in his nose.
Because their parents suffered persecution for practicing Falun Gong, many young children thus lost their parents and in some instances even became orphans at a very young age. Chen Chengyong, father of the two-year-old Fadu, was tortured to death in a labor camp in China in 2001. Dai Zhizhen, Fadu's mother said, "I cannot face my daughter's one simple request, 'Mom, I want Dad.'"
Rongrong is three years old. Ever since she was born she has experienced separation from her parents and the misery of life and death. Rongrong's father, Falun Gong practitioner Yao Songtao, was tortured to death in a labor camp. Her mother, Zhang Yunhe, was forced to leave home to avoid arrest. Rongrong's grandmother, the only family member left to take care of Rong Rong, had passed away from overwhelming grief.
According to a report from Clearwisdom Net, four-year-old Huhu's parents Yu Chao and
Her sister-in-law Yu Jia, who also works at Tsinghua University, was cut off her life resource by the officials from the Party Committee of Qinghua University, given only about 200 Yuan a month [average monthly income is about 500 Yuan in the cities of China to keep normal life] for practicing Falun Dafa. After she was detained and tortured 4-5 times with absurd excuses, Yu Jia was intercepted inside Tsinghua University by thugs directly instigated by the police. The thugs tried to throw her two-year-old daughter to the ground but were stopped by passersby. In November 2000, Yu Jia was illegally sentenced to 42 months in prison. She had to leave behind at home her young daughter and her husband, who lost his job.
According to a report from Clearwisdom Net, four-year-old Huhu's mother Chu Tong graduated from famous Tsinghua University. She was a well-respected teacher at Tsinghua University. She was severely persecuted because of her faith in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." Because of her firm faith in Falun Gong, she lost her job and her personal freedom. Because of the high pressure from the persecution and roaming lifestyle, Ms. Chu was forced to place her son Huhu, less than four years old at the time, in the care of a friend. The scene of separation between Huhu and his mother was heart-wrenching. According to a reliable news source, Ms. Chu's father was also forced to leave home in order to resist the forced brainwashing organized by his work unit. Right now, only Ms. Chu's elder mother, a non-practitioner, is left at home.
Huhu's aunt Ms. Yu Jia also works at Tsinghua University. She was cut off her life resource by the officials from the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, given only about 200 Yuan a month [average monthly income is about 500 Yuan in the cities of China to keep normal life] for practicing Falun Gong. After she was detained and tortured 4-5 times with absurd excuses, she was intercepted inside Tsinghua University by thugs directly instigated by the police. The thugs tried to throw her two-year-old daughter to the ground but were stopped by passersby. In November 2000, she was illegally sentenced to 42 months in prison. She had to leave behind at home her young daughter and her husband, who lost his job.
