For many kilometers around Liyun'er Village, Meichuan Township of Wuxue City in Hebei Province, the people all know one strange thing - It is against the law to fix bridges or repair roads.
In February 2001, there was a small road at the back of the village. Due to continuous rain, passengers and vehicles could not pass through this road. All those people passing by kept complaining about it, but no village officials took care of it. Other villagers were also unwilling to put in effort to fix it because there would be no payment.
One Dafa disciple living in that village was arrested and imprisoned for insisting on his belief. After he was released, he went to find another five Falun Gong practitioners to voluntarily repair the road; they spent a whole day working. On the second day, people were able to use the road. Many people who knew the situation said, "It is fortunate that we have several Falun Gong practitioners in our village. If not, who would repair this road?"
Three days after that, five policemen from the police station of Meichuan Township came to the village and forcibly took away the Falun Gong practitioner who led other practitioners to fix the road. Later when this Dafa disciple's wife went to the police station to question them, the director of the police station, Xu Jianguo said, "Your husband took the lead to organize Falun Gong and will be detained for fifteen days and fined one thousand Yuan."
When this news was spread to the village, people started to complain, "What law did they violate by repairing the road?" There was an old village head in the Liyun'er Village and he was an upright and kind person. When he heard about this news, he immediately went to the police station to ask for the release of this practitioner. He shouted in anger, "I don't know about Falun Gong, but it is a good thing to repair the road. If you detain and fine him today, our village will keep finding trouble with you." In the end, he got this Dafa disciple released from the police station.
