Dear (name omitted),

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese government. I appreciate hearing from you.

Government persecution of any group for its political beliefs should never be tolerated. China's record on human rights, including the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, is utterly condemnable. H. Con. Res. 447 was introduced by Rep. Lynn Woolsey on July 24, 2002. As you may know, this resolution calls for an immediate end to the harassment, detention, physical abuse, and imprisonment of individuals who are exercising their legitimate rights to freedom of religion, including the practices of Falun Gong, as stated in the constitution of China.

On July 24, 2002, the House passed a similar resolution by a vote of 420 to 0. H.Con. Res. 188 was introduced by Rep. Ros-Lehtinen on July 16, 2002, and calls on China to cease its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. It now awaits consideration by the Senate.

It is important that I hear from you. Please feel free to contact me again with comments or concerns on matters that are important to you.

God Bless You,

Jim Ryun
