Xinhua Net reported from Beijing on July 5th that from January through May there have been 326,000 traffic accidents nationwide, which makes up 72.9% of all types of accidents. As a result of these traffic accidents, 44,000 people died, 233,000 were injured and the cost of damages was 1320 million Yuan (160 million US dollars). Twenty-seven severe traffic accidents have killed more than 10 people each, with 407 killed altogether.
