1. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Li Dan, a Dafa Practitioner Traveling from Russia to China to Visit his Family has been Detained at the Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp

Li Dan, a Dafa practitioner, went back to China to visit his family. Li was forcefully arrested on February 7, 2002 by the Shenyang National Bureau of Security and is being illegally detained at the Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp.

2. [Beijing] During the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival, the Police Harass People in This Way

Before the Chinese Lunar New Year, Jiang Zemin proclaimed that "No means are excessive in dealing with Falun Gong practitioners." So the Beijing Police once again illegally arrested Dafa practitioners. For practitioners like us who have become destitute and homeless to avoid being arrested, they not only apply pressure at our workplaces but also harass our relatives. On the Lunar New Year's Eve, the police came to my home three times to harass my family. As a result, my child was very upset and cried and my parents were irritated.

After July 20, 1999, I spent two Chinese Lunar New Year festivals in detention. This year, after I walked out of the brainwashing class to avoid further harassment and illegal arrest, I did not return home and became destitute and homeless. Once again, I am unable to celebrate the Lunar New Year with my family. A family fragmented has lost all joy, an innocent child separated from family, and a mother is stricken with grief. In addition, the continuous harassment by the police adds insult to injury making this situation even harder to endure. In today's China, how many families live these tragedies created by the Jiang Zemin's regime! Not only have 365 Falun Gong practitioners been tortured to death, but also tens of thousands of practitioners have been detained in forced labor camps and prisons. And yet the authorities actually blame the practitioners, claiming that it is they who "are destroying the joyous atmosphere."

My family has ceased to merely endure their harassment. They decided to stand up for their rights and to not yield to illegal actions. This time, when the police attempted to take my son away as a hostage, my little sister angrily said: "It is you who arrested my brother. We haven't even asked you to find out the whereabouts of my brother, how dare you take away the child! If you dare to do so, we won't give up dealing with you!" My silver-haired old mother, pushed beyond the limit of her endurance, also said: "I'm ready to risk my life if you dare take my grandson away!" Because my family righteously defended their rights, the police who had initially come in fiercely later left crestfallen. Policemen closely following Jiang Zemin's mandate -- do you realize that "happiness" built upon the pain of others will eventually ruin your "happiness" to the core?

3. [Shenyang, Liaoning Province] A Female Teacher Working for Shenyang Bureau of Mines is Arrested

Wang Jianguang, female, 51 years old, a Dafa practitioner from Shenyang, has been an excellent teacher in the Shenyang Bureau of Mines. Last month, while she was supervising an exam for a class, she was deceived into leaving the classroom, was arrested and sent to a brainwashing class in Hong Division. There, they tried brainwashing her, through physical and mental torture. Wang is very determined in Dafa, and would not cooperate with her captors. Two days later, she was sent to the most notorious place in Shenyang --- the Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp. The police of the camp demanded Wang's family pay 5,000 yuan [about 10 months of salary for an average urban worker in China] for living expenses.

Because her husband and children are sick and need to be cared for, and she has an 80-year old mother, her family gave them as much as they could -- 3,000 yuan. Wang remains in detention.

4. [Chongqing] A Wanted Poster is Displayed in the Jiangbei Airport for the Arrest of Dafa Practitioners

In the working office at the Chongqing Jiangbei Airport, a wanted poster was displayed calling for the arrest of Chongqing Dafa practitioner He Tingxuan, female, 52 years old and Li Shujun, female, 57 years old. Their photos were posted along with their names. Their so-called "offense" was hanging up Dafa banners and distributing Dafa truth-clarification materials.

5. [Xi'an, Shaanxi Province] Around 110 Dafa Practitioners Have Been Detained for Forced Brainwashing

According to reliable sources, from the first half year of 2001 in Xian City, Shaanxi Province, the so-called "legal system studying classes" [forced brainwashing class] have been set up in all 7 counties and boroughs. Around 110 Dafa practitioners have been successively arrested for forceful brainwashing.

From August 2001, the municipal 610 office [a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches] started holding a city-centralized so-called "reading class" at the Changqing Nursing Home in Lintong county. Practitioners are not permitted contact with outside. They recruited people from various walks of life, who do not know the truth about Dafa, to give lectures and play videotapes that defame Dafa and Teacher. They force practitioners to write a so-called "understanding." The first term went from August to October 2001. Twenty practitioners were arrested and one of them was sentenced to forced labor camp. At the end of October, they started the second term. About 20 practitioners were successively arrested. The class continues without a break during the Chinese Lunar New Year. Every practitioner is accompanied by an "assistant." Each practitioner has to pay 2,000 Yuan in living expenses. They illegally detain Dafa practitioners under false pretenses.

6. [Gaoyang County, Hebei Province] Practitioners are Forcibly Injected With Drugs that Damage the Nervous System at the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp

Recently, a Dafa practitioner endured torture and violent punishment at Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp. After over 50 days on a hunger strike, he was released.

The Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp also released a practitioner from Zhangbei County. This practitioner had also endured many kinds of torture including injections of drugs that damage the nervous system. After the torture the practitioner was disoriented and muddleheaded. Upon hearing such news, his family tried repeatedly before succeeding in bringing him home.

A few days ago, three practitioners from Zhangbei County were sent to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp. Because one of the practitioners did not put his personal belongings in the appointed place, he was immediately slapped in the face twice and forced to stand facing the wall. The other two practitioners were taken back to Zhangbei county because their physical exam revealed they had diseases.

According to practitioners released from the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp, the labor camp holds forced brainwashing classes in stages. Anyone who does not accept the brainwashing will suffer other forms of torture. The means of punishment are extremely cruel.

7. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Three Female Practitioners Are Detained At No. 3 Detention Center

In Jilin City Fengman District Shijinggou Police Station has persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in its territory since July 20th. It has illegally sent altogether over 10 Dafa practitioners repeatedly to detention, over 20 Dafa practitioners were sent to labor camps for 3 year sentences, and it has extorted Dafa practitioners of assets valued at over 10,000 Yuan [Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 Yuan]. Recently, three female practitioners were informed on when they handed out Dafa truth-clarifying materials. They are now being detained at No. 3 detention center.

8. [China] A Female Practitioner Safeguards the Invaluable Book (Zhuan Falun), Risking Her Life

A neighbor informed on a female practitioner who had handed out truth clarifying materials. The local police station went to ransack her home; they only found one copy of Zhuan Falun and nothing else. This Dafa practitioner held the book tightly to her chest to safeguard the book. Then she was taken to the police station, and then after that to a civil police station. The practitioner guarded the book with her own body when they tried to rip it out of her hands.

This practitioner was sent to the detention center. The next day a female criminal who had been arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct joined her. The criminal had a minor concussion. This practitioner helped her in a very kind way and told her the truth about Dafa. As the woman listened to this practitioner, her headache disappeared. She felt that it was such a miracle, and believed that Falun Gong was the Buddha Fa. She decided to read the Dafa book once she got out. Because of her having this one thought, her headache was gone and the next day she got out (of jail).

The kindness of this practitioner moved a policeman who still had good thoughts, so he found a way to let her go.

9. [Jianli City, Hubei Province] Police Secretly Break into a Residence to Detain and Beat People

On Jan 27th 2002, in Jianli City, police from the Kecheng police station broke into Dafa practitioner Tang Lanyin's home, kidnapped her and carried her into a police car. When Tang's father came out to stop them, the police even beat him up, then left. Without reason, or due process, Tang Lanying was sent to a forced labor camp.

10. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] The Evil Deeds of the Hanjiang District Brainwashing Class

The "Restricted Study Class" [Brainwashing Class] in Wuhan City Hanjiang District has very vicious people in charge. Tang Lan (female), and Hu Jiaqiang persecuted Dafa practitioners. They detained practitioner Li Yuyu (female), Gu Yuenian (female) and Li Popo (female) who protested being brainwashed. Each of them were detained in a cell on the ground floor and were not allowed any contact with other people. They also sent both Li Suzhen (female) and Ye Chunfeng (female) to the detention center. Even though Chuanghang practitioner Li Xinglian couldn't eat or drink water for 9 days since being released from Hewan forced labor camp, he was forced into the brainwashing class. Tang Lan and Hu Jiaqiang still ordered him to be under surveillance and didn't allow him to talk to or contact other practitioners.

In February, Economic Development Zone Planning Commission Vice-President Mao Li (female), the Culture Bureau head and Child Birth Control Bureau head took over the brainwashing class, partnered with Hu Jiaqiang, and reinforced the persecution of practitioners, not allowing practitioners to do exercises or contact other practitioners. Each officer was assigned one practitioner to closely monitor. Special legal case group officer Ye Zuyuan cursed Dafa freely in class, humiliating practitioners. Since February 4th, Chen Meizhi (female) and Li Jili (female) who were against being brainwashed were sent to the detention center. Min Popo (female) who is over 60 years old was made to stand all day as punishment.

11. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Nongan County Police Escalate the Persecution of Falun Dafa Practitioners

More than a month ago, a reporter passed through the town of Kaian, Nongan County and saw Dafa banners hanging everywhere, like "Falun Dafa is good." He took some pictures and published them with a defamatory article. The pictures however unintentionally helped spread Dafa. Afterwards, the leader of the evil in Jilin Province fiercely berated Nongan Vice Party Secretary Li Zixin who was in charge of persecuting Falun Gong in Nongan County. Angrily, Li came back and yelled at the police department head Lin Xiaoguang. Lin immediately drove to Kaian and dismissed the chief of the Kaian Police Station.

Then they changed all the personnel in the local police stations in Nongan County and promoted many young people to be the chiefs of the stations. They ordered that every station chief must arrest two Falun Gong practitioners before the Chinese Spring Festival in February. Otherwise they would be removed. Lured by other inducements, these ignorant people at more than 30 local police stations did as they were told. Not only did they beat Falun Gong practitioners in public, but illegally detained more than 50 of them. Many practitioners were forced to leave their homes to avoid persecution.

It was said that there are several reasons for the Nongan local police stations to be so evil.

  1. Co-conspirators Jiang -- Luo, sent secret orders to "arrest practitioners as long as they practice Falun Gong. No measure is considered to extreme."
  2. A Vice Party Secretary named Zhang said, "[You] need to be hard on Falun Gong people. It's fine no matter how you deal with them."
  3. Vice Party Secretary Li Zixin said, "How much can you make from gambling and playing mahjong? How much can you get from Falun Gong?"
  4. Internally the police talked about the fact that Nongan Police Department had no money. Not even enough money to fill the gas tanks of the police cars, so they wanted to extort money from persecuting Falun Gong.

12. [Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] The Police Kidnap Eight Falun Gong Practitioners and Confiscate Large Amounts of Money

In the afternoon of February 10, about eight Lanzhou Falun Dafa practitioners held an experience-sharing meeting. The police from Guangwu Police Station came and illegally kidnapped the practitioners and confiscated lots of money. According to an internal source, a traitor had provided the information. It is suspected that the practitioners are currently being detained in Qilihe Detention Center.

13. [Fuyu County, Jilin Province] Falun Dafa Practitioner Zhang Jun Is On the Ninth Day of a Hunger Strike

Practitioner Zhang Jun has been illegally detained at Fuyu County Detention Center and is inhumanly treated. He has been on a hunger strike for nine days in protest and his life is in danger. We hope kindhearted people in the world can help him.

14. [Ganan County, Jilin Province] The Police Kidnap Falun Gong Practitioners in Large Scale Operation For Three Days

On the night of February 8, 2002, as people were happily welcoming the Chinese New Year, the "610" Office and Ganan police from all local police stations started kidnapping Falun Gong practitioners in the county. They arrested all people who had ever practiced Falun Gong before. They asked everyone to write guarantees to quit the practice. Those who refused would be dismissed from their jobs or sent to labor camps. They beat and swore at people wherever they went. Nearly one hundred families were violated in this way.

Zhao Yanhai and more than several dozen police from the Second Police Station of Ganan illegally broke into Dafa practitioner Lao Song's house. They beat and dragged Lao Song to a police car without even questioning him. Lao Song's wife and children stepped forward to stop them and were beaten to the ground. Upon watching this, many people felt angry.

15. [Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province] Qianjing District Police Department Persecutes Falun Dafa Practitioner Huang Shaobo

Huang Shaobo is 28 years old. He is very firm in practicing Falun Dafa. He was illegally detained for more than one year for hanging a Dafa banner. Recently, he was sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp. They rejected Huang's appeal and are sending him to Harbin Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. We hope that the oversea practitioners can call the relevant departments to help him.
