(Clearwisdom.net) The Mingpao Newspaper reported on December 13, 2002, the International Education Association, the largest teachers' organization that represents over 25 million teachers worldwide, yesterday expressed its support for Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union, calling for teachers in Hong Kong to participate in the parade against Article 23 Legislation of the Basic Law on Sunday, December 15.
The association believed that the related proposals on Article 23 have seriously threatened freedom of speech, thought, belief and publication, citing "publication of instigating materials" as the most dangerous. The association thought that this legislation would infringe upon teachers' freedom in classroom instruction, literary and artistic creation as well as participation in other cultural activities. The association has written the Chief Executive, Tung Chee-hwa, requesting the government to withdraw the legislative proposals.
