Ying Zhu is Released and Returned to Canada

Ms. Ying Zhu, a Falun Gong practitioner from Montreal, was released by the Chinese government and arrived in Montreal at 1 am on June 21, 2001.

Ying is a permanent resident of Canada and her husband is a Canadian citizen. She was arrested by the Chinese police on her way from Hong Kong to Guangzhou (Canton) to visit her husband and their parents. Her arrest outraged both the Falun Gong practitioners and the general public, who then started a campaign leading to her release.

Group of Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in Weifang, Two Beaten to Death within Days

[Falun Dafa Information Center reports] On the morning of June 4, 2001, policemen from Shouguang City in the Weifang District of Shandong province arrested more than ten Falun Gong practitioners in Majia village. Within three days, two of the arrested practitioners had been beaten to death.

After one practitioner was beaten to within his last breath, the crazed thugs dragged him in front of a government building in Jinyuan Square, set him on fire and burned him to death. Then they claimed it was "self-immolation."
