My name is Xu Tianlin, and I started to learn Falun Dafa on June 6, 1999. Before that, I had been partially crippled in a car accident. When I lived in Los Angeles, people used to call me "limp."

On June 27, 1999, right after the Chicago experience sharing conference, Teacher Li came to see the practitioners at the morning practice in Chicago's Olive Park. While trying to get closer to him, I stumbled and fell into the fountain. Teacher Li pulled me out of the fountain and answered the many questions I asked him.

After Teacher Li left, on my way to the restroom I started to run very fast in spite of my disability. I was very surprised. I usually have a hard time walking. How could I run all of a sudden?

That same evening, my lower abdomen felt distended when I was practicing the exercises. After the practice, I read Zhuan Falun until 4 AM. Inspired while reading, I felt enveloped in an atmosphere of eternal peace, a feeling that I had never experienced before. I took a shower and went to bed. The next morning when I woke up and took another shower, I noticed a distinct red line on my lower abdomen, as if it had been painted on my skin. When I stretched my legs, I was shocked to discover that my knee was not stiff anymore, and it felt like the stainless steel rod used to repair my fractured shinbone (which had been broken in 6 places) had disappeared! Without a single word or movement, Teacher Li had performed an "operation" on me: no cutting, no bleeding, and no pain. My left leg had previously been determined by a hospital in Los Angeles to be 2 centimeters (about 2/3 inch) shorter than my right leg. After the miraculous "operation," my left leg was now as long as the right one. I was not only saved from having to endure lengthy rehabilitation efforts, but I was also delivered from the mental pressure of being a disabled person, one labeled with the nickname "limp" for the rest of my life.

A close friend who managed a bookstore wanted to use my miraculous experience in an advertisement. He and some other friends insisted that I undergo an X-ray examination, saying that they would pay the fee. On the X-ray film, there was still a shining reflection in my shinbone; however, when I pass security checkpoints where there are metal detectors, the alarms do not sound anymore. When I cross my legs and meditate, my left leg is even more pliable than the right one. Was the steel rod removed, or was it transformed into another substance? Why and how did my left leg (which medical experts had told me would never heal) return to its original length? I don't have answers to these questions, and I guess the most famous orthopedic doctors and professors won't have answers either. This experience of mine cannot be explained by modern science.

I am an ordinary Falun Gong practitioner--probably not even a diligent one--but this experience of mine is worth some discussion. For today's doctors, it is also worth pondering.
