[Northeastern China] The Story of A Kind-Hearted Non-Practitioner In April of 2001, close to 40 practitioners attended an experience sharing conference in a certain northeastern Chinese city. The conference was completed successfully without any interruption, and the practitioners left with a peaceful and benevolent feeling in their hearts. The practitioners did not find out until much later that an elderly gentleman living next door to the conference site had heard everything from the start. He later said, "I know that you are all good people. I was afraid that you would be discovered by the police so I stood in front of my house acting as a watchman for you guys." He also said that he wanted to start practicing Falun Gong himself. This small episode helped practitioners truly see the power of the Dafa. In his great benevolence, Master Li is doing everything possible to bring more people to the Dafa. We should work even harder to clarify the truth to the people of the world and bring them salvation. [Mainland China] A Question from an Elementary School Student The authorities in a certain Chinese city forced many people to sign their names on a "petition" against Falun Gong. While that effort was taking place, elementary school students were ordered to erase or cover up Falun Gong slogans painted all over the city with words such as "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance" and "Falun Dafa is Good!" A student went to see the school principal and asked, "Teacher, 'Truthfulness- Benevolence-Forbearance' are such beautiful words. Why are we covering them up?" The principal did not know how to respond to that question. From that point on, the students in the school were no longer ordered to erase or cover up Falun Gong slogans. [Shandong Province] Righteous Thoughts Help Practitioners Escape from Danger The police in a certain Shandong city arrested a practitioner at his home at 6 AM on April 6th, 2001. They sent him to the Wangcun Labor Camp, where he was supposed to attend a so-called "transformation class." On the way there, the practitioner began to think righteous thoughts in his heart. He told himself, "The labor camp is not the place where I am supposed to be. They are going to send me home tonight!" When he arrived at the labor camp, he was given a physical examination. The doctor said, "He failed the physical. We cannot take him in." The police who arrested him had no choice but to send him home. On the same day, another practitioner went to visit a fellow practitioner at his home. He was turned in by an informant and arrested by the police. He was taken to the police station, where he was ordered to fill out some forms and sign his arrest warrant. He refused to do so, and told the police that they were knowingly breaking the law despite being law enforcement officials. A while later, the practitioner began to tell himself, "This is not a place where I am supposed to stay. I need to get out of here." At that very moment, several policemen were called away to attend a closed-door meeting in a room next door, and only one policeman was left to guard him. That policeman then suddenly went upstairs to turn in some forms. The practitioner went outside and saw 4 or 5 policemen in the guardhouse. He told himself, "I am a cultivator in the Buddha school. They cannot see me." He opened the front door, caught a taxi, and went home without any problem. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Officials in the Wanjia Labor Camp Torture Falun Gong Practitioners A number of practitioners are being detained in the 9th platoon of the Wanjia Labor Camp in the city of Harbin. Since January 31st, fifteen female practitioners have been placed inside six tiny jail cells (the area of each jail cell was 4 square meters, or less than 40 square feet. Cages were placed inside two of the six cells with less than 3 square meters of open space remaining). They were punished in such a manner whenever they performed the Falun Gong exercises. Many of them have been brutally beaten by male policemen. Many other practitioners are being locked inside of the five iron cages outside of the tiny cells. The guards took off the practitioners' winter coats and jackets when the temperature outside fell below -36~{!c~}C (- 33~{!c~}F). They also took away the shoes of practitioner Lin Xiuru, and forced her to sit on an iron chair, shivering in the cold for four days and three nights without any sleep. Twelve guards were divided into 2 shifts, and they were assigned to watch the practitioners who were locked in the tiny cells around the clock. Those practitioners not only were denied sleep, but they also had to remain standing at all times wearing only socks on the icy cold floor. After not getting any sleep for three days and three nights, practitioner Guo Hongyu was so tired on the 4th day that she fell down to the ground, yet she was still not allowed to get any sleep until that evening. There were no furnishing at all in the tiny cells. When the practitioners were finally allowed to get some sleep, they had to sleep on icy cold floors wearing thin sweaters or sweatshirts. They were finally given some quilts on the 8th day. Each cell was given two quilts. The practitioners had to put 1 quilt on the ground and cover themselves with the other one (two or three practitioners had to share 1 quilt). Several practitioners, including a 21-year-old young lady named Li Haiyan, were handcuffed to iron chairs for 8 days and nights and then thrown into the tiny cells. The wrists of Li Haiyan turned purple from being forced to wear handcuffs for so long. The guards did not give her a quilt until the 9th day. Their food for the first six days consisted of a small serving (a quarter of a small box) of cornmeal porridge twice a day. Starting from the 7th day, they finally received a small piece of cornbread with every meal. They had to hand the quilts over to the guards every day when they got up in the morning, and have not been allowed to wear any shoes to this day. The faces, legs and feet of all the practitioners are swollen after being locked up inside tiny cells for more than 2 months. One practitioner named Zhang Hong has been locked inside a tiny cell for a total of 9 months now. One evening twelve practitioners, including Wang Huiling, decided to perform the meditation exercise on their beds. Male guards rushed in and dragged them down from their 2nd level bunk beds. They were dragged outside to the corridors barefoot, kicked and beaten while wearing only thin sweatshirts. The guards grabbed their hair and hit their heads against the wall. Some practitioners' teeth were knocked out, and their faces were severely bruised. Several practitioners were handcuffed behind their backs and hung up in the air with their feet off the ground. They lost all feelings in their hands for a long period of time after they were finally brought down. Many practitioners are suffering from rashes and other skin infections because of the damp environment that they have been forced to live in, plus the terrible sanitation conditions, bad air circulation, and not being allowed to have a hot shower for months. At this time, several dozen practitioners are being detained in the Wanjia Labor Camp even though they have finished serving the terms of their original sentences. Why has their right to go back to their families been taken away from them? It was in the height of winter with heavy snowfall. The policemen stripped the practitioners down to their undershirts, filled water basins, and forced practitioners to sit in them. As if that were not bad enough, the police also turned on electric fans and blew cold air on them for more than 2 hours. It was so cold that the water in the basin almost froze solid. Among the practitioners who were mistreated in such a manner, two of them are senior citizens who are around 60 years old. The captain of the police station is named Zhang Ming. All practitioners are urged to behave according to guidelines set forth by Master Li's new article, and take each step carefully.
