[Minghui Net] The annual "World Health Day" conference was held today (April 8, 2001) at the World Health Organization headquarters. This year's theme was world wide mental health and human rights issues.
The president of the World Health Organization, Dr. Brunkland, gave an opening speech. United Nations' representatives from health organizations around the world, as well as the presidents of non-governmental organizations and medical specialists--altogether more than one hundred individuals--participated in this conference.
The attendees reached an agreement, which stipulated that mental-health medical workers should abide by professional ethics with respect to the dignity and basic rights of mental patients.
In addition, to perfect the international rules of medical ethics, the World Health Organization has the responsibility to help educate and train medical workers from all over the world. It also monitors and investigates the enforcement of the rules and responds to any actions that violate human rights.
Seven Falun Gong (Great Law; and Principles) practitioners were at the conference and openly communicated with the participants. The outcome was good.
The Falun Gong Practitioners presented the true facts to the members of the Mental Disease Association concerning the inhumane detention of healthy practitioners by the Chinese government in mental hospitals. They made it increasingly clear that various officials within the government and medical community were abusing their power. The members of the Mental Disease Association expressed their concerns and made requests to the Chinese Mental Disease Association and Chinese Health Department to acknowledge these inhumane developments.
A Falun Dafa practitioner happened to meet one country's general representative at the World Health Organization's Summit. The representative expressed her support towards Falun Gong practitioners in their quest for ensuring basic human rights, and sympathized with them for enduring such a cruel persecution. She even claimed that she would often receive materials slandering Falun Gong from the Chinese Embassy; and was amazed to find in them an attempt to justify the crackdown. This made her uneasy, since she was aware of the overwhelming truthful evidence accumulated against the Chinese government by such well respected organizations like Amnesty International. She knew how grave the situation had become and felt the persecution most cruel and inhumane. She finished by asking: How can people believe such a government's propaganda?
Through conversations with the conferees we realized that more and more kind people had become aware of the evil nature imposed on the benevolent Falun Gong practitioners. To put this into a greater perspective, here are a few words by the Founder of Falun Gong, Mr. Li Hongzhi, at the Western US Cultivation Experience Sharing Conference last year: "As you already know, at that time the evil forces were really overwhelming ... These things have already been destroyed. It's only the evil humans that are left and still active. ...and after the evil was eliminated, people became clearheaded and now they're reconsidering and reevaluating all these. The lies and fabrications will all be exposed one by one."
