My 31-year-old daughter, Wang Li, a college graduate, lives in Wuhan City. She has been locked up in Hewan Labour Camp in Wuhan City for five months for practising Falun Dafa. Her life is in danger now. We appeal to people from all circles of society to help save my daughter ~{!/~}s life.
In 1987, my daughter underwent 10 courses of chemotherapy and two operations for her cancer in Tongji Hospital in Wuhan City. Though she survived from the fatal disease, she suffered from general debility and had to see her doctor almost every day. She searched everywhere for a cure and also tried several Qigong practices but with little effect. During this period, she relied entirely on medicine. The high medical expenses became a heavy burden for her and the family. Eventually we could no longer afford to pay it.
In March 1993, my daughter Wang Li started to practice cultivation in Falun Dafa. In a short period of time, she was getting progressively better. Seeing her changes, we were all filled with hope for her full recovery. She began to genuinely cultivate herself according to the teachings of Dafa. Beginning with being a good person, nurturing her nature through cultivation, maintaining a heart of compassion and kindness, and giving up constantly all the human attachments, she recovered both physically and mentally and developed a bright and cheerful disposition. She gained weight and was able to work again. Our whole family was happy for her. Falun Dafa is good for my daughter, my family and the society.
In July 1999, the Chinese government cracked down on Falun Gong. Trusting the government with the good intention of correcting its mistakes, she went to Beijing on July 24 last year to appeal. She wanted to tell the central government the benefits she enjoyed and the great changes that happened to her body and mind through practising Falun Dafa. But she was arrested and sent back to Wuhan in September 1999. In the next five months in policy custody, whenever government officials came over to question her and tried to convert her, she would kindly explain to them what happened to her life after cultivation. But some government bureaucrats ignored the truth and issued a warrant of "re-education through labour" and sent her to the Hewan Labor Camp in March this year, charging her with the offence of antagonizing the government, etc.
During the five months in the Hewan Labour Camp, my daughter Wang Li
has suffered extreme inhuman treatment. She has never had enough to eat, has worked an
average of 18 hours a day and has to spend part of the other six hours of the day on
education sessions. According to my daughter Wang Li and other incarcerated practitioners,
in the morning they are given a bowl of congee with countable rice in it. They are given
about 50 grams of rice and a bowl of salty hot water for lunch and supper. Occasionally
they can have a few pieces of vegetable leaves. Family members are allowed to visit them
for only 10 minutes once a month. The food brought along by the family members has to be
consumed within a fixed time, and the leftovers are not allowed to be taken back to the
dormitories. Every time we see our daughter Wang Li, she tells us that she is terribly
starving. It is said that they have to work at least 14 hours per day, and if they
can~{!/~}t finish their quota, they have to work overtime. There are always some days in a
month that they have to work 24 hours a day. They become so exhausted that they fall
asleep immediately after work without cleaning up themselves, even on very hot summer
days. Their situation is too horrible to imagine.
My daughter~{!/~}s weight has dropped from 42.5 kg to 30 kg. She is very thin, almost to the point of emaciation. Whoever has been to the Hewan Labour Camp to visit their family members has come out with a heavy heart. They all raised a question, "Is this called ~{!.~}re-education through labour~{!/~}?" We are supposed to be living in a country with a legal system and human rights? Where is the law? My daughter Wang Li has never participated in politics and interfered with national affairs. She is now suffering from such horrible "re-education" only because she practised cultivation of Falun Gong and spoke up for Falun Gong with her own cultivation experiences. Where~{!/~}s the right to live? The Chinese government always talks about a "healthy environment," then where is it in the labour camp? We don~{!/~}t know how many more days our daughter can stand. Thus, we appeal to all kind people from all circles of the society to help save our daughter Wang Li. She didn~{!/~}t die of cancer, should she die from torture in the labor camp? Where~{!/~}s the truth? Where~{!/~}s the justice?
A nation wants to be stable and flourishing, while people wish to be happy and healthy. This is where a state policy and human hearts lie.
"Listen to both sides and you will be enlightened; heed only one side and you will be benighted." Only when a government adheres to the principles of seeking truth from facts in handling all affairs and listening to the voice of the public, can a country have stability and flourish, can people live a stable life and become rich. Could such "re-education through labour" make people genuinely convinced? Could social stability be achieved in such a way? Clear up the misunderstanding regarding the practitioners, please! Recognize the fact that Falun Gong benefits both the country and the people, please! Please help save our daughter and get her released!
