On June 26, the world summit conference of social development and the UN special representative conference, held every five years, had their prelude in Geneva. Heads of governments from over 30 countries and delegations from over 180 countries attended the conferences. A large-scale five-day forum on social development named " Geneva 2000" was held at the same time. About 8000 people, 2000 of whom were media reporters, signed up for the conferences. Meanwhile, the UN declared June 26 as " International Day for UN's Support of Savage Torture Victims".
Today, three months after the UN International Human Rights Conference held in March this year, hundreds of Chinese and Western practitioners from European countries, overcoming difficulties, came to the State Square in front of the UN in Geneva to participate in spreading Falun Dafa. Among them were seniors, over 80 years old, and also young mothers with babies. Some of the practitioners have a hard life, but they stepped forward from the small circle of their personal life to help more people to know the truth about Falun Gong. The practitioners demonstrated the five sets of exercises over and over again. Banners embroidered with "Falun Dafa" and "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" were raised. There were pictures and reports displayed that recorded the progress of Falun Dafa being widely spread in the human world, and hardships and tribulations that the practitioners in Mainland China have experienced.
One motorcade after another of high-ranking officials from various countries drove through in front of the practice formation; reporters of many radio stations, TV stations, newspapers, and conference members stopped by, inquiring about information on Falun Gong and taking photos.
