Evanston, a small town north of Chicago, is the location of Northwest University. On May 19 and 20, 2000, the once-a-year Garden Festival is held in Evanston. All of us regarded it as a good opportunity to spread Falun Dafa since there were not yet any Falun Dafa practitioner in this town. However, there was an unbroken spell of spring rain that started in early May. Right up to the morning of the 20, the sky was overcast. The practitioners from the Chicago area found a tract of meadow in the park where the Garden Festival was being held and started their promoting and practicing activities.
Lots of tourists stopped to watch because our smooth, slow movements and the mellifluous music attracted them. While talking with the tourists, we learned that most of them had heard about Falun Gong. After my introduction, an old lady said that money moves everything on
earth, but we practitioners take others into consideration first. She said that following "Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance" is really worthy of esteem. A professor of journalism from Northwest University knew Falun Gong quite well, and he discussed with me the reasons why Falun Gong is being suppressed in China.
Some people came over to show their support while the practitioners were doing the sitting meditation. A Caucasian child even imitated the movements of practitioners during the meditation with great interest. Before we knew it, the dark clouds had been cleared away and the bright sunshine was illuminating every corner of the land.
It is my best wishes that more people in Evanston can hear about Falun Dafa. June 3, 2000
