[Xin-jiang] Student Practitioner Dismissed from School
Practitioner Zhong Kai, a student from the Oil Institute of Xin-jiang, was forced to quit the schoolings because he refused to write the pledge that he would give up his belief. He left the school on April 7. Before that, he had been detained for more than one month during the whole winter break just because he refused to recant. He did not get released until a week later after the new term of the school started. The school also asked his classmates to monitor him and did not let him go out at his will. Zhong Kai was an outstanding student.
In addition, Zhong Kai's sister, a practitioner from Ar-ke-su of Xin-jiang Province, was given 3 years of forced-labor "education". She is now being detained in Ar-ke-su.
[Hu-bei] Arbitrary Detentions and Stiff Fines in Hu-bei Province
Ms. Zhang Ming, from Han-chuan City of Hu-bei Province, and her husband, went together to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in September of 1999. At that time, she was pregnant for 7 months. Later after she was escorted back from Beijing, she got detained in the second detention center of Han-chuan City for more than 20 days (from September 8 of 1999 to October 2 of 1999). She gave birth on November 30 of 1999. Her child was named Lu Xiu-yuan. Zhang Ming's husband got detained at the same the detention center and did not get released until February 2 of 2000. Zhang Ming's address: 23 Yi-zhi-hou-xiang, Cheng-guang Town, Han-chuan City, Hubei Province.
Ms. Zhang Wen-fang, practitioner from Wu-xue City of Hu-bei Province. Before she learned Falun Gong on October of 1995, she had many illnesses such as cirrhosis of the liver, spienomegaly, and kidney cyst etc. According to the Chang-hai Hospital in Shang-hai City, she would die soon. But she was able to get rid of her diseases by practicing Falun Gong. Her story was spread among the Wu-xue City. The police went to her home and ordered her not to tell her story to others. She said, "It is my true story. Why cannot I tell it to others?" The police officer said, "You should tell your story even if it is true. You should not tell it to Falun Gong practitioners either."
Practitioner Ms. You Jin-xia, 60 years old, from Xiao-chi Town of Huang-mei County of Hu-bei Province. She went to Beijing to appeal at the beginning of March of 2000. The police tortured her because she refused to tell the police her name and address. She was escorted back a few days later. On the train, the police took the sleeping berth. She was handcuffed to the iron frame of the sleeping berth, with only toe tip touching the ground for a few hours. She is still being detained in the detention Center of Huang-mei County. Her son got his rank reduced because she refused to recant. Her son would like to bait her out. However, the guard said that she could not be baited out no matter how much money he spent.
Practitioners from Han-chuan City of Hu-bei Province, Li Zhi-jia, Wei Cui-er, Cheng Ai-ping, Xiao Yan-fang, Zhu You-san, Fang Ying-hua, Lu Wen-jie, and Guo Bao-zhu etc had been detained for 3 to 4 months for having gone to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. They got released after each of them paid a fine of several thousand Yuan. Practitioner Ms. Li Qiu-hua was given a year of forced-labor "education". Practitioner Zhang Xin-hua has been detained for more than half a year and has not been sentenced yet.
Practitioner Fang Ying-hua, from Han-chuan City, went to Beijing to appeal on September 7 of 1999. She and other 6 practitioners were escorted back on September 17 of 2000 and got detained in the first detention center of Han-chuan City. She got released on February 2 after paying a deposit of 3,500 Yuan, and another 1,800 Yuan for her living expenses in the detention center, and still another 200 Yuan for service fee. Her cellular phone worth of 3,646 Yuan was seized away.
Practitioner from Han-chuan City, Ms. Hu Han-jiao, got detained in the first detention center after she went to Beijing to appeal on September 13 of 1999. She got released on January 9 of 2000 after she paid a deposit of 3,000 Yuan and 1,800 Yuan for the living expenses. Her mother-in-law, Ms. Tang Jiao-ying, who had gone to Beijing together with her, had also been detained for more than one month and got released after paying a deposit of 3,000 Yuan. On February 24 of 2000, the police station went to her home to find her. Because she was not at home, the police then accuse her that she went to associate with other practitioners and seized away all her books and materials of Falun Dafa, a cassette player and two Walkmans. The police detained her for another 15 days for the accusation of "disturbing social orders". She paid 450 Yuan for the living expenses.
Practitioner from Wu-han City, Ms. Zhang Hong-xia, got arrested in October of 1999 when she appealed in Beijing. The police officer in Beijing confiscated her 1,710 Yuan and gave it to a police officer named Hong Xin-hua who came to Beijing to pick her up. After Ms. Zhang Hong-xia got released, she and her husband went the police department of Wu-xue to ask for that money. The police then returned her only 400 Yuan. The Qing-lin police station asked her workplace to pay for the travel expense of the police officer who escorted her back from Beijing, which was 1,936 Yuan. That money was then deducted from Ms. Zhang's salary. (Her monthly salary was only 219.3 Yuan.)
Practitioners in Wu-han City have been getting arrested for no reason since the end of this February. They must pay a fine of more than 2,000 Yuan in order to get released. Two practitioners have been sentenced with 3 years of forced-labor "education". Moreover, those who got detained for having gone to Beijing to appeal would be fined more than 10,000 Yuan in order to get released.
[Hu-bei Province] Human Right Violations in Xian-ning City
Since July of 1999, more than one hundred practitioners from Wen-quan and Xian-an Districts of Xian-ning City went to Beijing to exercise their petition rights. As a result, each of them was given an administrative detention of over 15 days or a criminal detention of over one month under the accusation of "disturbing social orders". They had to pay 30 Yuan per day for the poor-quality meals. Sometimes, they were forced to do hard labors. Some practitioners were sent to labor camps. About one hundred practitioners were forced to attend the so-called "thoughts transformation classes" after they finished serving their detention terms. Over a dozen of practitioners had their homes ransacked. Some practitioners had their homes ransacked for many times. Many practitioners were imposed heavy fines of more than one thousand Yuan. Some practitioners were even fined for up to several tens of thousand Yuan. Especially in Xian-an District, the police arrested practitioners and imposed a stiff fine of several thousand Yuan at their will. Some workplaces had to dismiss those practitioners under the pressure of higher authorities, although they knew that genuine Falun Gong practitioners were good people.
According to incomplete statistics, about 20 practitioners from Wen-quan District and Xian-an District of Xian-ning City were given forced-labor "education" ranging from one year to 3 years. They are Zhang Qi, Fang Jing-lian (female), Wang Li-di, Xu Chang-hong, Ren Hui-fang, Yang Xiao-yong, Yang Dong-xiang (female), Hu Hong-mei, Wu Wei-hua, Zhou Ke-li (female), Chen Yi-qun (female) and Chen Jian-ping from Wen-quan District and 4 practitioners including Li Yong from Xian-an District. They are now being detained in the Xiang-yang Lake Labor Camp, Guan-fu-qiao Labor Camp, Sha-yang Labor Camp and Drug-stopping center of Wu-han City.
Moreover, on the morning of April 16, 2000, practitioner Fang from Xian-an district and practitioner Chen from Wen-quan district were taken to the first police station of Wen-quan district for interrogation when they were chatting with each other on the roadside of the Park of Wen-quan District. After they got freed, practitioner Fang was again taken away by the police from Xian-an district on April 18 when Fang was working in a restaurant. He was given a detention of 15 days under the accusation of "not cooperating with the police". Now practitioner Fang is being detained in the detention center.
[Jiang-xi] Persecutions in Xin-jian County
Since February 2000, Xin-jian County of Nan-chang City detained many practitioners for the reason that it was a "special period". In particular, before the "Two Sessions", some practitioners got detained for no reason. For example, practitioner Wan Qing from Nan-chang City got arrested when practicing Falun Gong alone. Practitioner Ms. Chen Mei-li, who was a doctor, got arrested at home. Practitioner Ms. Zhong Jin got arrested again for no reason on March 6, 2 days later after she got released from the third detention center.
Many practitioners in Xin-jian County got detained. The whole family of practitioner Ms. Ge Jin-lian, including herself, her husband and three daughters, and her 3 sisters all got detained. Ms. Ge Jin-lian was given 2 years of forced-labor "education". Her husband and two daughters are still being detained, with an 18-year-old daughter left home lonely.
Practitioners from Heng-hu, Ms. Hu Yi-ping and her parents, got detained in the train station while they were waiting for purchasing tickets to Beijing. Practitioners from Chang-lin Town, Ms. Wei Mei-ying and her daughter-in-law, got detained twice for up to 3 to 4 months. They are now still being detained. Ms. Wei Mei-ying will be sent to labor camp for three years of forced-labor "education". Most of their family members and relatives have been fired or removed from their posts. Huang Dong-an and his wife Xiong Xiao-ling had also been detained twice. More than 10 practitioners had got detained twice for no reason. Over 20 practitioners in Xin-jian County got detained during the "Two Sessions". Currently, many practitioners are still being detained for not being able to pay the heavy bait ranging from several thousand to several ten thousand Yuan.
The Committee of politics and Law of Xin-jian County issued a document to require every workplace to collect a deposit of 6,000 Yuan from every employee who is a Falun Gong practitioner. Most of those who refused to pay the deposit got detained. Those practitioners who got detained would not be released before they pay the deposit.
Many practitioners have not only been detained, but they have also been imposed stiff financial penalty. For example, Xiao Ping's family was required to pay a deposit of 12,000 Yuan in order to get her released. Luo Gui-hua was required to pay over 10,000 Yuan to the workplace and the police department. Xiong Hua-ying had paid a deposit of 5,000 Yuan. The couple of Huang Dong-an had paid a deposit of about 15,000 Yuan. Mr. Huang Dong-an was expelled from the Party and removed from his post because of practicing Falun Gong. If one could not afford to pay the deposit, the salary of his/her family members will be deducted to cover that money. In Da-tang Village, 7 farmer-practitioners who had gone to Beijing to appeal were demanded to pay a deposit of 9,000 Yuan each. Because they were not able to afford that money, police ransacked their homes, and confiscated all of their worthy properties such as TV, pigs, chicken and rice etc. The income of their family members working in the Xin-jian County will be deducted if it is still not enough to cover up that much money.
Currently, police of Xin-jian County went to practitioners' homes to interrogate them. If a practitioner said that he/she would continue to practice Falun Gong, he/she would be detained and pay a deposit of 6,000 Yuan.
It is said that the deposit would be doubled later. The family members of the practitioners would also be punished.
