I am a Falun Dafa practitioner. My name is Zheng Ping, 59, female, retired senior engineer.

On October 23rd, 1999, when I heard that Falun Dafa was going to be labeled as an "evil religion", I wrote a letter to reflect the true situation and went to the National Appeals Bureau in Beijing with the letter. When I was still far away from the gate of the Appealing Bureau, I was stopped by plainclothes and unable to enter the door. I asked them to forward my appeal letter to the Appeals Bureau, but they all said that they did not dare to pass this letter for me! One police car came and I was taken away and sent back to the city of Shi-Jia-Zhuang where I came from. I was detained in the Shi-Jia-Zhuang Detention Center for 15 days and was monitored by some people from my factory after I was released.

On December 17, 1999, when two Falun Gong practitioners came to visit me at home, several policemen from Yu-Dong Police Station including officer Sun rushed into my home and took us away to the police station. They said we were "gathering", so they interrogated us and ransacked my home. They detained me in the police station for 3 days and asked my work place to pay a "fine" of 1500 Yuan RMB for me after I was released. They also ridiculously asked me to guarantee to "disallow any Falun Gong practitioners to come to my home".

On December 24, 1999, Yu-Dong Street Administrative Office detained over a dozen Falun Gong practitioners on the second floor of Bao-Shi Hospital and locked us there. We were monitored in the evening and not allowed to visit other rooms or practice Falun Gong. Our families were only allowed to deliver our food from a side door. They claimed such detention would continue endlessly and we would not be released until we wrote an agreement to give up practicing Falun Gong. They did not release us until 15 days later. It is ridiculous that they also asked us to pay 500 Yuan RMB ourselves and later took 1000 Yuan RMB through our working place after we were released.

February 4, 2000 was the Chinese New Year eve. The whole country was celebrating this festival. As a Falun Dafa practitioner, I could not practice Falun Gong outside for several months, how I wished I could join a group practice at this good time. I was stopped right when I approached the practice site. The practice site we used before was encircled by police cars and policemen. Then I was driven back home by the policemen. At 3:00AM of February 5, when I was sleeping at home, Chief Li and some other staff from the Yu-Dong Street Administrative Bureau arrested me and took me to the police station. Just because of our hope to join the group practice, I was detained together with about 100 other practitioners. It was said we were going to be detained for 15 days but we were not released until 18 days later. Since then, I have been monitored by some workers in my work place.

During my detention, I was interrogated by police in the evening of February 6th. My home was ransacked for the second time, all of my Falun Gong materials were taken and all my personal property was opened for the so-called purpose of "investigating my case". In the evening when the temperature was several degrees below zero, I was handcuffed and frozen in the yard with a single shirt on and bare-foot. They also pour cold water on my feet. When they saw I was almost frozen to death, they took me indoors for punishment. I was sworn at, beaten, slapped in the face and on the head. When I was interrogated, I had to stand for the entire 24 hours. Of course the punishment I received is still not so severe as compared to other practitioners.

Since November 1999, under all sources of pressure, my factory imposed on me two kinds of punishments: one is to hold my daughter as a "hostage" as she works in the same factory as me. They claim that as long as I violate the policy they impose on me, my daughter will be dismissed. The other is to impose economic punishment. Since last November I was fined every month, which was taken out of my salary with only some living expenses left for me. This March, I was paid nothing and even my living expenses were deprived .

I practice Falun Dafa just because Falun Dafa is good and beneficial to the practitioner' physical and mental health. And it will not bring any harm but all benefit to any country and any society. However, I not only lost my freedom of belief but also all of my basic human rights. I have not done anything wrong, but I was arrested, beaten, sworn at and fined. My personal freedom can not be protected and even my life is threatened.

My name is Bai Yu-Tai, female, 33 years old. On the afternoon of January 11th of the Chinese lunar calendar, the police from Jin-Jin Police Station took me away to the Wei-Shui Police Department without a reason and did not give me any explanation. As soon as I got out of the car, I was handcuffed onto a stairs. Shortly after, policeman Ma Zhanyuan came and saw the Falun badge I wore, so he started to grab it by force. I did not want to give him the badge, therefore he came to me and slapped me on the face and beat me on the head. Then he pulled me by the collar and pressed me down onto the ground, rode on me and knocked my head on the ground with force. Later I was pulled up from the ground, taken to another room and forced to kneel down. I did not want to kneel down. He started to beat me again, pressed me onto the ground and rode on me and then wildly knocked my head on the ground. After that, they began to search my body and ransacked from me 800 Yuan RMB, one pager, one telephone card, one telephone number book and one Great Wall bankcard. I was forced to stay outside for over 2 hours, handcuffed and freezing. Shortly after I was brought indoors, they started to beat and kick me again without any reason. They forced me to kneel down, but I refused. Then they handcuffed me with one hand over my shoulder and the other hand from my back and kicked me several times. After that, they tied me with a rope, lifted my arms from the back and kept torturing me like that. Three to four people pressed me onto the ground with great force and stepped on my leg with their shoes. Several people even stepped on my leg together and beat me with a stick. When I was to weak to be beaten any more before I could die, they handcuffed me for a whole night and the next day handcuffed me in an iron cage.

In the "re-education class", many Falun Dafa practitioners endure different degrees of punishments.

Zhao Yin-Xia, Wu Rong-Tin, Kang Li-Ying and Zhang Zhen-Zhen from the village of Luo-Jia-Zhuan, town of Wei-Shui at Jin-Jin County, were all brutally beaten. Their heads were clapped, and they were forced to kneel down and brutally beaten with police batons. Practitioner Yin Li-Hua, female, over 40 years old was continuously and brutally beaten when she was in the menstrual period. She was not even allowed to go to the washroom, and her trousers were all contaminated with menses. They also forced Falun Dafa practitioners to swear at Master Li. During the detention, the practitioners were only provided 3 buns and some water every day and they also forced practitioners to hand in 1000-2000 Yuan RMB in order to get released.

Practitioner Wu Zhang-Ming, male, was even more severely beaten. They beat his knee bones with a chair and even the chair was broken. Practitioner Wu was so beaten that he was injured all over his body. He is still crippled due to the injury to this date.

The Falun Dafa practitioners of Gu-Di Village of Wei-Zhou Town, Jin-Jin County were arrested and sent to the police station because of their joining a group practice. Especially practitioner Luan Shun-Shen (male) was handcuffed and forced to kneel down on the ground and be beat and injured all over his body. Some female practitioners were shocked in their sensitive areas with electronic bars. After they were beaten, female practitioners were forced to stand on ice bare-foot with only a thin coat on. After being brought indoors, they were electronically shocked again if they did not promise to give up practicing Falun Dafa.

In Tian-Chang Town of Jin-Jin County, a 40-year-old male practitioner was shocked with an electronic baton. When he was handcuffed and beaten, his head was knocked onto his handcuffs. Blood kept spraying out and the police were so concerned that they sent him to a hospital. The police detained all male and female practitioners together. All practitioners were handcuffed to the chairs in a cold and empty room so that the practitioners' legs and hands were frozen . The practitioners were detained for over 10 days and only provided with buns and water without any vegetables or meat. Police also forced the practitioners to pay 1000-2000 Yuan RMB.

Bai Yu-Hong, female, is 25 years old. She was arrested to Wei-Shui Police Department on the Chinese New Year's Eve because of joining a group practice. She was beaten there. When interrogated on January 6th of the Chinese lunar year, she started to endure inhumane torture. She was not allowed to go to the washroom and as a result her urine leaked on to her trousers. She received heavier punishments than I did. She was forced to kneel down and one policeman kicked her head with legs and several other policemen pressed police batons on her legs and stamped on them with great force. In the criminal police department, she was hung up and beaten until she could not stand up. She could only crawl to the washroom.
