1. [Beijing] Authorities Replaced Police Vehicles On the Tiananmen Square to Plain Ones to Welcome The United Nations Official
Everyone who has visited Tiananmen Square since last October know that there are always police vehicles there for taking away Falun Gong practitioners. Recently, however, there are no longer police vehicles there; instead, there are common vehicles without any police identities. But the arresting of practitioners has never stopped. No matter what one is doing around the Tiananmen Square, one must get on the "plain-clothes vehicles" if one admits to be a Falun Gong practitioner.
2. [Beijing] Recently, all practitioners who co-signed the open letter to the National People's Congress in the first run have been arrested.
3. [Beijing] In Beijing, Tianjin and Harbin etc, the police have restarted to monitor Falun Gong practitioners' phone calls.
4.[Ping-gu County] Local Authorities "Transforming"Practitioners by Cutting Off Water and Power Supply
There are not many practitioners in the Xiao-ru-zi Village of Da-hua-shan Town of Ping-gu County. The local practitioner Wang Shu-lan has been detained for one month because of practicing Falun Gong. The village government finally started to "transform" those determined practitioners by cutting off their water and power supply. The families of three practitioners Jing Ji-chen, Zhang Jing-yun and Yue Chang-dao have been cut off water and power supplies since February 5. They have to borrow water and use candles. The village officials said their water and power supply would be restored as long as they promise that they would not practice Falun Gong. The officials even threatened the practitioners that their family members could be expelled from school and fired from work.
5. [Bao-ding, Hebei Province] Practitioner Imposed Heavy Bail
A practitioner from Bao-ding went to Beijing to appeal around February 27. After he was escorted back to Bao-ding, he was required by the local police department to pay a bail of 10,000 Yuan in order to get released. This has tarnished the public image of the local government.
6. [Tianjin] Practitioner Detained for Appealing to Local Government
A practitioner from Tianjin has recently started to appeal to all levels of government. When he appealed to the city government, the official asked him, "Would you like to have a police vehicle send you home or you want to go home by yourself?
The practitioner said, "I just got released after being detained for several months. I am afraid of nothing." The official thus said, "You may just go home by yourself." This practitioner got detained again after he went home. Now he has been detained for ten days.
Another practitioner had also attempted to appeal to all levels of government. However, he got detained when he appealed to a local department and has been detained for 6 days up to now.
7.[Lan-zhou, Gan-su Province] Practitioners Arrested for Attending a Local Conference
Practitioners in Lan-zhou have become more and more determined about Falun Dafa after the local Falun Dafa experience sharing conference held recently. The police department has been investigating about the conference. Up to now, many of those practitioners who attended the conference have been arrested.
8. [Xiong County, Hebei] Practitioners' Homes Ransacked and Robbed by Local Authorities
Ms. Liu Bo-hui and Ms. Chun-cai, practitioners from Zhang-gang Village of Xiong County, Hebei Province, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. They got arrested and escorted back to their hometown on February 28. The village government thus sent some people to ransack their homes. All their valuable personal belongings including TV, Washer, and Gas-stove etc were confiscated. Moreover, their rice storage was also confiscated. In both families, there are some family members who do not practice Falun Gong. They also tried to arrest Ms. Liu Bo-hui's husband but he escaped. Ms. Chun-cai has two teenager children at home and one is ill. Their lives have been greatly disturbed.
9. [Harbin] Many Practitioners Still Being Detained
During the Chinese New Year, dozens of practitioners from Harbin went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. After being escorted back, they could be released after 15 days of detention after signing a pledge that they would not go to Beijing to appeal or other similar pledges.
Currently, many practitioners got released after signing the pledge that they would no longer go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. However, many practitioners are still being detained for refusing to do that.
10. 8 Pieces of News from Mi-yun: Mass Detention, Cruel Tortures, Stiff Fines ...
[1] Over one thousand practitioners have been detained in the Mi-yun detention center.
[2] Practitioners Dragged to Run for Hours with Shackles; Their Feet Seriously Injected
In last November, the fifteen practitioners who recited the articles of Falun Dafa in the detention center were tortured by putting on foot-shackles and then being dragged to run around by some convicted criminals. That had injured their feet seriously. Liang Hai-ying had been tortured like that for 6 hours and Wang Ai-er, who was a teacher, had been tortured like that for a whole day.
[3] 70 Practitioners Arrested and Fined, Including a School Pupil
In the Lunar New Year's Eve (February 4, 2000), 79 practitioners from Mi-yun got arrested for practicing Falun Gong together. Later, 5 of them got detained and others got released after paying a fine of 200 Yuan, which was not a small amount for the local peasants. The youngest practitioner, Zhang Shuang, who was a 12-year-old elementary school pupil in the 5th grade, has not reached the legal age. But the police changed his age to 16 in order to impose a fine on him too.
[4] Practitioners' Detention Arbitrarily Prolonged; Two on Hunger Strike for 9 Days
Around the Chinese New Year's Day, 30 practitioners from Mi-yun went to the Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong and got detained. 15 days later, the police prolonged their detention to 30 days without notifying their family members. Meanwhile, practitioners Guo Jin-xi and Zhu Tian-cui etc have been on hunger strike for over 9 days in order to appeal for the innocence of Falun Dafa and the release of arrested practitioners.
[5] Cruel Violence against Practitioners in Jail
On February 10, 22 practitioners recited the articles of Falun Dafa. 5 of them were then cuffed together. The guard vented his anger against the 14-year-old practitioner Li Yu-chun by punching her legs with an iron lock, beating and kicking her in the snow after back-handcuffing her (with one arm coming down from the shoulder and the other one coming up from lower back). A 59-year-old lady was pushed down onto the snow ground by several police officers and criminals and was stuffed with socks in her mouth. The police stuffed mops with dirt and stamp-pad ink into the mouths of other 4 to 5 practitioners. Practitioner Zhou Ya-li was put on foot-shackles for having tried to protect the young practitioner Li Yu-chun. The police pushed her down to the ground and stuffed some socks into her mouth. Then, the police fixed her on a board with shackles and belts to warn others. However, the practitioners started to recite the articles of Falun Dafa even louder. Then, the police threw Zhou Ya-li together with the board onto the snow ground. The guard used the dirty snow to pound her until she lost her consciousness. The guard stopped torturing her until a journalist came. The journalist dared not approach her upon seeing the miserable scene. During the whole process, Zhou Ya-li had been reciting the articles of Falun Dafa. She felt warm all over the body. She had once been able to sit on the board by freeing herself from the shackles and belts, which shocked all the convicted criminals. She said, "Falun Dafa has make me into a new person. I take hardships as pleasures in defending Falun Dafa and teacher Li."
[6] Mistreatments against a Practitioner: Head Pressed into Toilets
Practitioner Zhao Deng-xiang, who refused to recite the rules of jail, suffered all kinds of tortures from the convicted criminals under the instigation of the guard. Once, they poured cold water on him and pressed his head into the toilets.
[7] Practitioners Arrested for Gathering on Chinese New Year Day
During the New Year Holiday, practitioner Yuan Ming-yi, who had been detained for three times for continuing to practice Falun Gong and appealing for Falun Gong, and his wife, went back to their hometown in Mi-yun to visit their parents. Her mother Zhang Shu-qing was not home because she was detained for continuing to practice Falun Gong. The fellow practitioners in the neighborhood sent them food, sweaters or went to visit them. Later, ten of them, including Yuan Bao-zhong, the father of Yuan Ming-yi, were arrested under the accusation of "association". Therefore, there was no one at home during the Chinese New Year. The heating equipment was also frozen to break down.
[8] Police Extorted Money from Practitioners
The police officers from the police stations of Mi-yun always ask for 200 Yuan from each of the appealing practitioners when they go to Beijing to pick them up. They would go to their homes to search for the money if the practitioners could not pay the money on the spot. Then the police would go to the restaurant to eat and drink. After that, they would return to beat up practitioners.
