... for inviting me to attend the 2000 Great Lakes Falun Gong Convention. I apologize that I am unable to be with you on this important weekend.

I am impressed by the continued peaceful demonstration of Falun Gong in the face of such great human rights abuses by the Government of the People's Republic of China. And, I was happy to support H. Con Res. 218, which condemns the Government of the People's Republic of China for human rights violations against Falun Gong practitioners. This legislation passed the House of Representatives and I am hopeful that we will see continued Congressional support for Falun Gong.

I will continue to work to advance acceptance of different religions, lifestyles and activities and promote human rights. I offer you my best wishes for a successful and memorable conference.
