Amnesty International Supports Falun Gong in London

On 16 December Amnesty International London Regional Office (AI London) held their annual Carol Singing event under the Christmas Tree at Trafalgar Square in the centre of London. The organiser of the event mentioned the persecution of Falun Gong in China and encouraged the audience to support Falun Gong and sign our petition. Practitioners from London attended the event, displayed materials nearby, and collected 350 signatures within an hour and a half during the event.

On 17 December the Chinese Embassy Education Section held an election for the UK

Chinese Student Union. Practitioners from London stood outside the Education Section's Office and distributed Dafa materials to everyone entering. Almost everyone who attended the meeting took a set before they entered the building.

Newspaper in Nottingham, UK publishes front page feature on the campaign to free a Falun Gong practitioner

On Thursday 14 December, the Nottingham Evening Post, the quality newspaper of

Nottingham, UK published on its front page an article about a campaign to free Miss Wenjian Liang, the sister of a UK citizen, Jane Liang.

Wenjian Liang has been sentenced to two years in a Guangzhou Labour Camp and has been tortured for doing Falun Gong exercises. The article, which covered three pages of the newspaper, explained in detail Wenjian Liang's ordeal and the despair that her family has endured. Another Falun Gong practitioner who was being held in the same camp, Mr. Gao Xianmin, recently died after being force fed with up to 2lb of salt as punishment for going on hunger strike.

The article explained that an MP (Member of Parliament) in Nottingham, Mr. Alan Simpson, has put forward an Early Day Motion at the House of Commons for Ms. Wenjian Liang' release, which was also signed by 17 MPs. The UK Foreign Office has also raised the case with the Chinese authority, but to date, Wenjian Liang is still being held at the labour camp. In addition, the article suggested several ways in which readers can help in the campaign, including writing to MPs, the UK Foreign Secretary, and the Chinese Embassy. The article even provided the addresses.
