On December 8, 2000, on the eve of German Foreign Minister Fischer's departure for a visit to China, the representatives of Falun Gong practitioners in Germany delivered an open letter to the Minister. In this open letter, Germany's Falun Gong practitioners sincerely requested Foreign Minister Fischer to make every effort in contacts with Chinese officials to urge them to stop China's suppression of and illegal treatment and brutality toward Falun Gong. In a different important undertaking, in just a three-week period in November, Falun Gong practitioners in Germany have collected over 27,000 petition signatures. The petitions decry the brutal, illegal and unjust treatment of innocent Falun Gong practitioners in China, and will be delivered to the Human Rights Department at the German Foreign Affairs Ministry. Practitioners in Belgium, Denmark, France, Holland, UK, Austria, Sweden and Switzerland, also have collected their respective signatures, totaling more than 100,000 in number. The originals of these signature pages have been sent to the UNITED NATIONS. The duplicates will be sent to the governments of the respective countries. Those who signed the petitions asked the UN and the governments of their respective countries to urge the Chinese government to stop the illegal suppression of Falun Gong. On December 8, 2000
