A Practitioner's Letter to the Recent Nobel Peace Prize Winner

Dear Mr. President

Congratulations on winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

We have understood that you are a special person who has endured a lot of suffering in your quest for peace and justice. In your actions you have been a leading defender of the universal human rights and committed your self in favour of democracy in Burma and against the repression in East Timor.

We write this letter as an appeal to you to voice your support for the practitioners of Falun Gong who are suffering inhuman torture and repression in Mainland China. The very same human rights you have defended before are being seriously violated in the vicious crackdown on Falun Gong.

Falun Gong is a high-level cultivation practice based on ancient tradition. Since our teacher Li Hongzhi introduced it to the public in 1992, it has gained great acceptance worldwide and has practitioners in many countries. Contrary to PRC propaganda, all teachings are free of charge and open to everyone. The teachings of Li Hongzhi advocate following the principle of the Universe; Zhen Shan Ren (Truthfulness, Benevolence, Tolerance) in order to become a better person. As a practitioner one should also always think of others first, have a heart of compassion and act unselfishly. These characteristics arise naturally during the process of cultivation practice.

Since the brutal repression of Falun Gong began in China, according to the information that manages to get out, 76 practitioners have died in the crackdown, 500 has been sentenced to long terms in jail, 5000 hve been put into mental hospitals and 50000 has been arrested. Despite all the brutality they have encountered the practitioners have all done their best to follow the principle of Zhen Shan Ren. They haven't fought back when being beaten, nor hated their persecutors in their hearts. As our teacher wrote:

"We are not against the government now, nor will we be in the future. Other people may treat us badly, but we do not treat others badly, nor do we treat people as enemies.

We are calling for all governments, international organizations and people of goodwill worldwide to extend their support and assistance to us in order to resolve the present crisis that is taking place in China."

The Chinese President is spreading vicious lies about Falun Dafa. As practitioners we do our best to clarify the truth to the people of the world. We therefore kindly ask you, as a person of high moral standard and great influence, to voice your support for the practitioners so brutally persecuted in China in your speech during the Nobel Prize ceremony or at any other occasion.
