S/he died as a result of brutal beatings by Beijing police. The name and other details about the practitioner are unknown. [Jiangmen, Guangdong Province] Falun Gong Truth-clarifying material appear in the city During the holiday period around Chinese National Day, posters such as "Jiang Zemin can't shirk the responsibilities of persecuting Falun Gong" appeared in Jiangmen's public parks, schools, street corners, phone booths, bus stops and residential neighborhoods. They attracted much attention from the residents of the city. Many people gathered to read the posters and discuss what they had just read. One thing they agreed on was that they were amazed by the courage of Falun Gong practitioners for daring to put up the posters. The local police responded to the brave action of the practitioners with a new round of brutal persecution. They forced many practitioners to come to the local police stations and write statements on what their opinions on Falun Gong were. The actual intention was to get a handwriting sample of each practitioner and check to see if he or she was responsible for the posters, which were written by hand. The authorities stepped up their persecution on October 15^th. Around 11pm that night, the police all over the city simultaneously ransacked the homes of many practitioners. The police took away practitioner Yang Yongsheng and confiscated his home computer and printer. He is now being held at the local detention center. [Mainland] Telephone lines of Mainland practitioners may be bugged Just a reminder to all the Mainland practitioners - the police may already have placed a listening-device into practitioners' telephones while nobody was home, and now they can listen in on all the conversations conducted over that practitioner's home telephone. Please be on the alert. If such a bug is found, please keep it as evidence to be used in future legal proceedings. [Mainland] Talking to people is also a good time to tell the truth and validate the Dafa At the present time, many practitioners are using a variety of methods to validate and spread the Dafa, and to explain the truth to the people of the world. However, a lot of practitioners do not have the means to print and distribute flyers. I personally feel that simply talking to people is also a good way of stepping forward on behalf of the Dafa. No matter whether they live in the city or the countryside, practitioners can go to crowded places such as construction sites, bazaars, bus stops, public parks, or any other place where people gather to rest and chat, and just talk to people. This method does not require any written material, yet it is a still effective way to spread the word and get the message across. [Chengdu, Sichuan Province] Chengdu authorities attempt to destroy practitioners through financial means Jinjiang, a district of Chengdu, recently notified all the workplaces in the district to follow the orders by the central government and step up persecution against all the people who insist on practicing Falun Gong. The orders are being enforced throughout the district. The practitioners went to the local police stations and neighborhood residential commissions and asked to see a copy of the orders from the government. They were told that the orders were sent out verbally. At the present time, under the policy of "persecuting them politically, bankrupting them financially, and destroying them mentally," all the practitioners in Chengdu are in a very difficult situation. [Chongqing, Sichuan Province] Practitioners arrested in Chongqing Zhang Guanglang, around 42 years old, was a worker in the Chang-An Conglomerate. She was taken away by the police from work on October 23^rd, and her home was ransacked as well. The reason behind her arrest is unknown right now, but allegedly it is linked to distributing truth-clarifying Falun Gong material. He Haiou, around 30 years old, was a doctor at the Zhong-Gang Conglomerate Employee Hospital. He and his 28-year-old wife Peng Yang were arrested on October 24^th when they went out to distribute Falun Gong flyers. They are now being held at the Badukou District Police Station. Two practitioners, Wang Yuefa (male, around 37 years old) and Tong Huishan (female, around 45 years old), went to visit a fellow practitioner's home in the morning of October 26^th, where they were arrested and taken away by undercover agents for no apparent reason. Their arrests are allegedly linked to distributing truth-clarifying Falun Gong material. In addition, two other practitioners Wu Fa (female, 23) and Mi Xiaozhen (female, 21), both students at the Chongqin University, were forced to attend a "transformation class." After the class, they still insist on practicing Falun Gong and have been expelled from the university. [Chengdu, Sichuan Province] Practitioner Huang Jie sentenced to a year and a half at a labor camp Practitioner Huang Jie worked in the Chengdu Steel Pipe Factory. In July, he was arrested in Beijing for making an appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. He has been sentenced to a year and a half at a labor camp, and now he is being held at the Dayan Labor Camp located in the Ziyang County of Sichuan Province. [Chengdu, Sichuan Province] Policeman Guo Tonglin steps up persecution against Falun Gong practitioners Guo Tonglin is a policeman at the Longqianyi District Police Station in the city of Chengdu. His ruthless behavior toward Falun Gong practitioners has been previously reported on the Minghui Net (see http://www.clearwisdom.net/eng/2000/July/13/MNC071300_1.html). After discovering his appearance on Minghui, Guo was angered and stepped up his vicious persecution of practitioners throughout the entire district. Guo has sent a number of practitioners to labor camps. Cheng Zhan, who worked at the local Agricultural Bank, and a middle-school teacher with the surname of He were both sentenced to a year and half at labor camps and are being held at the Dayan Labor Camp located in the Ziyang County. [Shenzhen, Guangdong Province] Practitioners sentenced to three years at labor camps for distributing Falun Gong flyers Shenzhen practitioners Sun Junliang and his wife Zhang Ke have been sentenced to three years in labor camps for distributing Falun Gong flyers in the beginning of July. There are still a number of practitioners whose whereabouts are unknown right now. Sun Junliang, 27, holds a master's degree from the Huanan Science and Engineering University. His wife Zhang Ke, 26, is a graduate of Shenzhen University. They both used to work in the Shenzhen office of a certain international company until they resigned from their jobs and went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong last September. From then till this May 13^th, they both have been arrested three times. Starting from the end of June, Shenzhen practitioners have been printing and distributing material to clarify the truth about Falun Gong. In July, Sun and Zhang were arrested for distributing Falun Gong flyers. A number of other practitioners have also been arrested, but the total number is currently unknown. [Zhuhai City] A partial list of Zhuhai practitioners arrested and sent to labor camps Ren Ke, a university graduate, was arrested around the Chinese New Year of 2000. He has been sentenced to two years in a labor camp. Fan Hongwei, a master's degree holder, was arrested around the Chinese New Year of 2000. She has been sentenced to two years in a labor camp. Wang Yulan, a college graduate, was a staff member at the Zhuhai Daily News. She was arrested on June 22^nd at her home and has been sentenced to two years in a labor camp. Lin Yongtan, a university graduate, was an engineer at the Zhuhai City Geli Electric Appliance Company. He was arrested in Wang Yulan's home on June 22^nd and has been sentenced to two years in a labor camp. Yang Lin, a university graduate, was arrested in Beijing on July 22^nd when he went there to appeal for Falun Gong. He has been sentenced to three years in a labor camp. Yuan Weixian was a police officer at the Zhuhai 2^nd Police Station. He was arrested in Beijing on July 22^nd when he went there to appeal for Falun Gong. He has been sentenced to two years in a labor camp. Ouyang Jian was a worker at the Zhuhai City Geli Electric Appliance Company. She was arrested in Beijing on September 30^th for practicing Falun Gong outdoors. According to reliable sources, she has been sentenced to two years in a labor camp. [Beijing] Practitioners sentenced to one year at labor camps Sun Hong, around 40 years old, was a worker at an elevator manufacturing company. Shortly after Jiang Zemin branded Falun Gong a XX last year, she went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong. As a result, she was arrested and detained for half a month, and she was fired from her job after being released from the detention center. After the Chinese New Year, her husband threw her out of their home. She had nowhere to go and had to live on the streets. On April 13^th, she went to Tiananmen Square again and held up a banner for Falun Gong. She was arrested again and has been sentenced to one year at the Tiantanghe (which in Chinese ironically means the 'heavenly river') Labor Camp. Her husband has officially divorced her. You Chunhua, around 40 years old, was an accountant. On April 13^th, she went to Tiananmen Square to hold up a banner for Falun Gong and was arrested. Now she is also serving a 1-year sentence at the Tiantanghe Labor Camp. [Zhuzhou, Hunan Province] Authorities illegally holding two practitioners without giving out official sentences Zhang Meiying, a 45 year old teacher, went to Beijing last December to make a legal appeal for Falun Gong. As a result, she was arrested and detained. Upon her release from the local detention center, she was fired from her job. During the Chinese New Year festival, she went to visit a number of fellow practitioners and was arrested on February 25^th. Without following any legal procedures, the authorities have held her at the Zhuzhou 1^st Detention Center since March 31^st. Chen Min, 37, was arrested along with Zhang on February 25^th. After his arrest, a trial was conducted, but due to the lack of factual evidence to support any alleged crime, the court was unable to hand down an official sentence. However, he is still being held at the local detention center to this day. The local practitioners and friends of the two practitioners signed a petition and asked the local government to look into this matter. Every single person who signed the petition has been punished in one way or another. Four people were detained for violating criminal laws, and a number of others were detained for "disturbing public order." All the others were fined and placed under surveillance. In October, the local government has stepped up persecution of practitioners. Four practitioners have been sent to labor camps without cause. They are: Liu Qinliang, male, sentenced to one year in labor camp. Ye Dingduo, male, sentenced to a year and a half in a labor camp. Pu linwen, female, sentenced to one year in a labor camp. Li Zunjia, female, sentenced to one year in a labor camp. [Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province] Recent Developments in the city of Shijiazhuang Female practitioners Xia Junying and Chen Jie were arrested for distributing Falun Gong flyers. Xia Junying is currently being held at the Shijiazhuang 2^nd Detention Center. She is 48 years old, and her husband passed away many years ago. Currently there is nobody around to care for her 13-years-old daughter, so relatives from the countryside have taken her in temporarily. The "law enforcement officers" at the Ning-An Street Police Station tortured Xia during the interrogation session. They used a variety of inhuman methods to beat her up and only stopped when injuries had covered her entire body. When her 13-year-old daughter saw Xia afterwards, she was so scared that she immediately burst out in tears and could not stop shivering. While crying, she said: "Today there are policemen who act like bandits, hurting innocent people everywhere." Chen Jie, 32, had been previously arrested for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Her employer has been paying her just a small living allowance, and her daughter is just 3 years old. Currently Chen is being held at the Dongjiao Police Station. Jin Weiping, in her 30's, worked in the Hebei Province Agricultural Sciences Academy. She was arrested for mailing out Falun Gong truth-clarifying flyers. After being detained at the Hezuo Street Police Station for several days, she is being held at the Shijiazhuang 1^st Detention Center. Zhou Qinglong, an elderly professor at the Shijiazhuang Military Equipment Engineering College, was arrested and taken away by the police while attending a routine meeting at work. No one knows his whereabouts currently. In addition, there are more than 10 practitioners who are being held at the Shijiazhuang 1^st and 2^nd Detention Centers.
