On September 12th of 2001, he was arrested and sent to Team Six of Hehuakeng Labor Camp in Tangshan, Hebei Province. In an attempt to force him to give up his practice of Falun Gong, the police and some of the inmates subjected him to all kinds of torture. He was beaten by police officer Wang Yulin and inmate Liu Zenghua; he was tied up with rope and shocked with an electric baton, etc.

To protest such inhuman torture, Chen Aizhong went on a hunger strike. On the seventh day of his hunger strike, he was force-fed by Wang Yulin and some inmates. On the ninth day, Wang Yulin again directed inmates to force-feed Chen Aizhong. During the force-feeding, at 3:30 p.m., Chen's heart stopped beating and his pupils dilated.
