In the labor camp, he went on a hunger strike to protest maltreatment. The disciplinary police-team force-fed him with drugs, which caused him to have diarrhea for over three months. Finally he was so thin and weak that he could not eat any food. In October 2002, he was sent back home to seek medical treatment. Two months later, Mr. Bi's home was searched and seized by police. He was detained in the Jiamusi Detention Center again and subjected to brutal torture. Mr. Bi's health was devastated and he was in critical condition because of the torture. On January 16, 2003, the detention center sent him back home trying to avoid responsibility for his death. Mr. Bi died at home ten days later.
