Ms. Ou Xiangyuan, 53, was a worker at the 852 Farm, Baoqing County, Heilongjiang Province. Before practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from many illnesses, including female reproductive problems and diabetes. After Ms. Ou began to practice Falun Dafa in 1994, all her illnesses were cured. People around her witnessed the mighty power of Dafa and many of them began to practice Falun Dafa.

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Dafa on July 20, 1999, Ms. Ou wanted to appeal for Dafa and clarify the truth. Police officers arrested her on her way to Beijing in December 2000, and then detained her at Shanhaiguan Detention Center. She refused to tell the guards her home and work addresses, so they beat her. Liu Songbai, section chief of the Public Security Division of Heilongjiang Province, kicked her with heavy shoes until her lower body was swollen.

The guards shackled Ms. Ou's hands behind her back, then hung her from the ceiling by her hands until her limbs were numb and she lost consciousness.

The guards also tied Ms. Ou's daughter's hands to heating pipes. They beat the girl and forced her to watch her mother being tortured. They forced the girl to disclose her mother's home and work addresses.

During the two weeks that Ms. Ou was illegally detained at Shanghaiguan Detention Center, she was severely beaten and injuries covered her body. She suffered from chest pain and headaches, and felt sick and vomited.

Shanhaiguan Detention Center asked police from the 852 Farm and Ms. Ou's husband to take her home, but officer Liu Songbai forced her husband to pay a fine of 20,000 yuan. Her husband borrowed 20,000 yuan from the farm where he works. He hasn't managed to pay back all the money, because the farm has not been doing well and could not pay him his salary on time. The guards at the Shanhaiguan Detention Center said publicly, "We can kill you like killing a mouse in a warehouse."

Ms. Ou lost consciousness many times from the torture she suffered. The guards were afraid that she would die; therefore, the director of the police station at the 852 Farm took Ms. Ou to Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital to undergo so-called treatment. In the evenings, the guards forced her to watch brainwashing videos. Ms. Ou was extremely thin and weak, and she could barely walk. A doctor in the hospital said her diabetes was already in the last stages and she suffered from blood poisoning. She needed immediate treatment, but the police ignored the doctor's warning and took Ms. Ou and her daughter back to the farm.

Because Ms. Ou lost conscious frequently, the police imprisoned her at home. They ordered her husband not to let her read the Falun Dafa book or do the Falun Dafa exercises. They threatened him. They said that if he failed to stop her from practicing Falun Dafa, he would lose his Communist Party membership as well as his job. Her husband was forced to hold his tears back and do the things he did not want to do. Now he regrets what he did.

After Ms. Ou was taken back to the farm, local police officers and leaders came to her home daily to try to force her to write a "guarantee statement." They tried many methods to "transform" her. Ms. Ou did not waver in her belief in Falun Gong and refused to write a guarantee statement. The police disturbed her at her home day and night and she could not rest peacefully. Already very weak, Ms. Ou went into a coma and died at the 852 Farm Hospital on April 23, 2003.

Ms. Ou's husband lost his wife, and her daughter lost her mother and her job. A happy family was broken apart. There are countless such stories in Mainland China.
