Case Description:

(Minghui.org) Mr. Long Yuhai and his wife, Ms. Guo Shuxiang, residents of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, were arrested on November 30, 2014 after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials.

They were indicted in January 2015. While awaiting trial, Ms. Long became mentally disoriented, and Ms. Guo almost lost her eyesight and hearing. In order to avoid prosecution, they left home three days before the Chinese New Year. They were put on the Wanted List.

The couple returned home about six months later. They were arrested around June 2016 and released on bail after the local detention center declined to take them, citing their high blood pressure.

Mr. Long exhibited mental problems again around August 2016 upon learning of his upcoming court hearing. He and his wife left home again and lived away from home for three months.

Eight people from the local Renshou Court showed up at the couple's home on June 28, 2017 to hold a hearing. About one month later, Ms. Guo was sentenced to four years in prison and Mr. Long three years. They were also fined 4,000 yuan.

At the time, Mr. Long had become incapacitated and emaciated. The court ordered them to undergo a medical evaluation to see if they were fit for imprisonment.

The couple had to live away from home again to avoid being imprisoned. Mr. Long died on December 6, 2017 in his rental place. He was 80.

Prior to his death, the court and police station twice sent people to check if they had returned home.
