(Clearwisdom.net) I live in a large city in Europe. When clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to tourists from China and suggesting to them that they quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations, sometimes I get questioned about the accuracy of the number of people (over 55 million now) who have actually quit. Some people say, "If so many people have quit, how come no one around me has quit?" Actually, very likely it is not that people around him haven't quit, but rather many people have quit but do not want others to know, given the CCP-controlled environment.

At a tourist spot, I once met a Chinese tour group with over twenty people. When I handed the Falun Gong pamphlets to some of them, two men in their forties exploded and started cursing at me. The others in the group remained quiet and no one dared to take the pamphlet. I didn't leave, nor was I bothered by those two. Instead, I continued to clarify the truth to the rest of the group.

The others remained silent, but none of them left me. A few even came closer to listen to me talk. I told them about what Falun Gong is really about and also about the staged Tiananmen self-immolation. Ten minutes later, those two men stopped cursing, as perhaps they felt it was ridiculous for them to continue. I started talking about quitting the CCP, Youth League, and Young Pioneers. A gentleman who had been listening quietly suddenly asked, "How do I quit?" I told them that they could use aliases and I could help them to post their announcements on the website. He became silent again.

Then the tour guide called them to leave. The others left right away, and the gentleman who had asked the question walked slowly, letting the others go ahead of him . Seeing that, I said to his back, "I will use the name ABC for you to quit the CCP, is that what you would like?" Suddenly, he turned his head but didn't directly look at me. Slightly, but surely, he nodded his head, and then left quickly.

He chose this approach to quit the CCP and its affiliates. Will he let his colleagues know? Surely not.

On another occasion, when we were protesting the CCP's persecution against Falun Gong in front of the Chinese Embassy, a Chinese tour group came to dine at a Chinese restaurant next door. Three people came to take pictures of the embassy. I walked up to them to clarify the truth about Falun Gong and to talk to them about quitting the CCP.

Two of them didn't say a word. They rushed to take their pictures so that they could leave. The third person simply stood there without responding. I kept talking to him, thinking that it would help him to hear the truth. When the other two left, he started to fiddle with his camera. I said to his back, "Would you like me to use a fake name ABC for you to quit the CCP?"

He suddenly turned to me, and I was surprised to see his expression. His face was filled with joy and light, as if he had changed into a completely different person. He nodded to me several times, and then left.

Whenever I thought of him later, I was very much moved. He was waiting for such an opportunity, waiting for me to understand his intention, waiting for me to ask him that question. Though he didn't dare to speak out himself, he had nodded heartily. The CCP's sixty years of control by terror has made many people very cautious and fearful. In such a dangerous environment, he of course will not let his acquaintances know that he has quit the CCP.

When someone asks me, "Why has no one around me quit the CCP and its affiliates," that does not mean there is truly no one around him who has quit. On the contrary, more and more people are quitting but haven't made it known to others. One day they might find out that people around them have already quit, too!
