(Clearwisdom.net) The Vandenberg World Cultures K-5 Academy in Southfield, which is located in the greater Detroit district, held its annual activities to celebrate diversified cultures on May 8, 2009. This year for the first time, local Falun Gong practitioners were invited to participate. Therefore, Falun Gong, which is a cultivation practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, was introduced to 390 students and their teachers as well as the students' parents.

Inquiring about the practice of Falun Gong

Practitioners demonstrated the five Falun Gong exercises on the stage, and were warmly welcomed by the school's staff, the students and their parents. Many people in the audience mimicked the movements right there on the spot. Afterwards, many were interested in learning more and went to the Falun Gong booth to receive Falun Gong materials and ask about practice sites.

The academy principal, Ms. Terri John, commented to one practitioner that she didn't know that Falun Gong is so good. When she heard about the wish of some staff and parents to set up a Falun Gong practice site at the school, she indicated that it was a good idea and would also be convenient for the students to learn. She mentioned that the academy would also consider including the Falun Gong exercises as an official extracurricular activity.

Each year in May, the Vandenberg Academy celebrates diversified culture activities. The parents of the students at the Academy come from 29 nations all over the world and speak 23 different languages. The parents brought in various types of food which were specific to their own countries or geographical areas, while students wore their special national costumes to the auditorium. Many programs were offered during the celebration, such as dancing, singing, and so on. This year the Falun Gong demonstration added an extraordinary splendor to these activities.
