(Clearwisdom.net) Shen Yun Performing Arts delighted and thrilled seven packed houses at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, Canada on April 3-8, 2009.

Founder of Opera in Western Canada: "Magical, magnificent"

Dr. Guttman, a member of the Order of Canada and a member of the Canada Council for the Arts Advisory Committee, thought the show was "well done." "The professionalism of the cast was fabulous. The music, the patterns in the dancing, and the energy--it was absolutely marvellous. We were taken away in a wonderful world of dance and movement that I haven't seen in a long time," he said.

Dr. Guttman enjoyed the "energetic and melodious" music of the live orchestra, saying, "The music added a lot to the movement and the excitement of what was going on onstage. It truly set the mood for the dancers and it captured the whole atmosphere of the stage, and that's what's important."

Before parting, Dr. Guttman said he would definitely tell his friends about the show: "They missed a wonderful afternoon and a wonderful show. Because it's unique, and that many dancers, and the patterns, and the stage--it was magnificent. And the costumes and the colours--I find it very exciting. It was a magical, magnificent afternoon. So I say bravo! to your company--it's wonderful!"

Sociology Professor: The Show is an Important Contribution to Chinese Heritage

Ms. Prahst, a sociology professor at a local Vancouver college, thought that the "performance succeeded in making people think about holding onto traditions." "I think in modern society today we lose our heritage, and I think the fine performing arts really are able to remind people of where their roots are," she said during the intermission.

She continued, "If you don't know your history, if you don't know your culture that's been eradicated, how do you know who you are? And I think here in Vancouver we have such a large Chinese community, many don't even know their culture, and I think this is a really important contribution to their heritage. The show was so well thought through."

Ms. Prahst described the show as "excellent" and said Shen Yun succeeded in portraying the essence of China's traditional culture. "It's really difficult to capture history and culture, and I think the show really succeeded in being able to try to provide a sense of history and culture in a very genuine way. ... I also think it's important that people understand a little bit of history, and I think through cultural art it's a way to create awareness for youth," she said.

In parting Ms. Prahst said, "I hope to bring my students here next year."

University Director Inspired by the "Dynamism and Energy" of Shen Yun

Mr. MacLachlan, a director at a large local university, attended the Shen Yun show with his wife, a university student. He was particularly impressed with the profundity and wisdom behind the stories. "The stories in the pieces, the dance and music--it's so very interesting to get that sense of history, of style, and dynamism and energy. ... The stories have a lot of meaning to them," he said.

Before starting at the university, Mr. MacLachlan worked in various high-level positions for some major media companies in Vancouver.

Mr. MacLachlan commented on the innovative digital backdrop, saying, "It worked, and it's been in perfect timing with the music, which is very clever."

His wife said that she was impressed by the skill and training required to meet such a high performance level. "We're amazed at the athleticism. We're amazed at what they can do. It's beautiful, beautiful," she said.
