(Clearwisdom.net) On March 13, 2008, Ms. Gu Jianmin died as a result of the persecution. Her younger sister, Ms. Gu Jihong was arrested in July 2008 and is facing a sentence. The sisters practiced Falun Gong and have suffered persecution during the past nine years.
Ms. Gu Jianmin began to practice Falun Gong in 1998. She followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and tried to be a better person. She was kind and generous and took care of her mother-in-law, who was bedridden from a serious illness. People who knew her thought she was the type of person to give but demand nothing in return. She told people about Falun Gong and the persecution, hoping to help others. In June 2006, she was arrested and sentenced to one year of forced labor. Within a few months of being released from detention, she was arrested again and later died as a result of the persecution.
When she was on the verge of death, the police called her husband and asked him to do paperwork for her medical parole. They told him that Ms. Gu didn't feel well and had been sent to see a doctor. When her husband arrived at the hospital, Ms. Gu was already in a coma. Her eyes looked strange and there was a blood stain at the corner of her mouth. There was no medical personnel by her side. Her husband hurried to call for the doctor, but the doctor told him that it was too late for her. Her husband knelt down to beg the doctor to save her life. The doctor went through the process to try and revive her, but was unsuccessful and declared her death. Her husband watched her until her last breath.
Ms. Gu's family tried to hire a lawyer to appeal her case, but all attempts have been blocked. One lawyer was about to accept the case but was threatened by the officials from the Shanghai 610 Office and the Shanghai Judicial Bureau. They told the lawyer that there is a new "rule" that lawyers have to obtain permission from the local judicial bureau before accepting any Falun Gong cases. If the judicial bureau does not approve, the lawyers cannot accept the case.
The officials from the Shanghai 610 Office threatened her family and did not allow them to appeal or expose the case. At the same time, they compensated her family with money, and forced her family to immediately sign the agreement to cremate her body in order to destroy evidence of their crime.
On July 26, 2008, officials from the Putuo District 610 Office arrested Ms. Gu Jihong, the younger sister of Ms. Gu Jianmin, at her home. This is the third time that she has been arrested. In June 2000, she was sentenced to three years in prison. In June 2005, she was sentenced to one year of forced labor but was not released on time. At the labor camp, she was detained in a 30-square-foot room with no windows, for solitary confinement.
It was reported that the 610 Office officials plotted to sentence her again.
