On July 23, Finland's main newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet published an article about Finland's Falun Gong practitioners in Helsinki protesting the Chinese Communist Party's seven year long persecution of Falun Gong entitled: "Falun Gong Practitioners Protest against the Persecution".

Finnish Falun Gong practitioners are worried about people not paying enough attention to the illegal organ trade in China. Falun Gong practitioner Sinikka Sutakan says: "People find it very difficult to believe that such cruel things are still going on".

Yesterday, active Finnish Falun Gong practitioners gathered near Helsinki train station, telling people passing by about the persecution of Falun Gong. They did a re-enactment, playing a violent policeman, doctor-surgeons and the victims of inhumane organ harvesting. It was an effort to let people understand how severe the situation really is.

Sinikka Sutakan is the Falun Gong contact-person in Jyvskyl and suffered first-hand persecution.

"Falun Gong practitioners in Finland have also personally experienced persecution. We have received harassing phone calls."

Ms Sutakan says that she and many other people have received very long harassing phone messages.

She explains, "This is the CCP's deceitful propaganda. The CCP is in fact very frightened of Falun Gong."

The Chinese Communist Party feels threatened

The suppression of Falun Gong started in 1999, when the former Chinese head Jiang Zemin banned people from practicing Falun Gong. At that time a survey showed that the number of Falun Gong practitioners exceeded the Communist Party members.

Ollie Tourmi spoke through a loudspeaker on the square: "Falun Gong practitioners are being killed because the CCP defines Falun Gong as its enemy."

In front of him he had horrific pictures of the persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in China, and also a sign which told the price of organs today: Kidneys 60,000 Euros, Hearts 200,000 Euros.

Tourmi studies history in Turku University. He compares the persecution suffered by Falun Gong practitioners with Hitler's persecution of the Jews.

Tourmi says: "The CCP vilifies a whole group of people and describes Falun Gong as a national public enemy, because the CCP feels that it is threatened."

He feels worried about people's indifference to this issue.

"This is just like the genocide in Rwanda. When it was happening there was no response from the people. However only after it was over do people realise how brutal it was at the time."

Falun Gong slandered

Sinikka Sutakan explains that Falun Gong has five sets of simple exercises. The exercises themselves keep one's physical body healthy.

She said: "When I first took up Falun Gong, I immediately realised that my health changed. If it wasn't for Falun Gong I might have retired now because of bad health, but now my body feels great."

It is hard to understand why people are being persecuted and their organs stolen just because they like to practice the five sets of exercises.

Ollie Tourmi says: "Falun Gong is being slandered, defamed and framed by the CCP. The first piece of information that Finland received about Falun Gong was issued by the Chinese Communist government."

"People do not understand"

Tourmi told us that some people still hold negative understandings towards Falun Gong. Nevertheless they hope that one day people will comprehend how cruel the situation is.

"It's only miserable that only with such an extreme incident as the live organ harvesting can people pay attention to the persecution."

Next to the Falun Gong stand there was another bigger tent on the square, which played pop music and gave free promotional iced tea. Some passers-by were confused by the short distance between the iced tea and the pictures of torture; however people were much more willing to receive free drinks than information about organ harvesting.

Tourmi and Sinikka both express the feeling: "This clearly illustrates the situation in the world today."
