In December 2002 my husband, Ding Lihong, was tortured to death by the police in Shanxi Province, and I was overcome with grief. A once harmonious family has now been broken apart, just because my husband wanted to be a good man. I am appealing against this most wrongful death.
Lihong was a 36 year old locomotive engineer in the Railroad-Train-Maintenance Section of Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. His body was weak before he started to practice, but it soon became strong after his practice, and he gave up all of his bad habits. In his work unit, he worked hard and was not upset by any criticism he received from his co-workers. From Lihong's practice of Falun Dafa arose selflessness and pure compassion, which made him very warm-hearted and friendly in treating others, regardless of whether they were family members, colleagues or fellow practitioners. We five (my son, my father- and mother-in-law) were living as a harmonious and happy family.
On July 20, 1999 the scoundrel head of China began a persecution of millions of good people that firmly believe in the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," using the most brutal methods. My husband and I many times have had our money extorted from us from the police, who also searched our house and confiscated our property while illegally detaining us. Lihong received especially brutal torture. In the summer of 2001 Lihong was illegally arrested on the street. He held a hunger strike to protest against the illegal arrest and persecution imposed on him. After holding a hunger strike for 25 days, he was sent to a detention center and was not released until he continued his hunger strike for seven more days. He was at that time reduced to skin and bones. Since then, my husband and I led a wandering life, forced to leave our family members behind with nobody to take care of them. A happy family was thus forcibly split apart. Our son could no longer receive love and care from us, while our elderly parents were unable to experience the joy of filial piety and care from their son and daughter-in-law.
During the Spring Festival of 2002, Lihong, after a long time of being homeless, came back to see his parents. The Shijiazhuang City Police Department even went so far as to deceive my father- and mother-in-law and to instigate Lihong's work unit to together find where he was staying and send him to the Hebei Province Brainwashing Center in Shijiazhuang City. Lihong again suffered brutal persecution and torture for two and a half months. Over there, they tortured him psychologically by depriving him of sleep for 25 days. Facing such inhuman persecution, he went on a hunger strike to protest. Those thugs then force-fed him by forcing very thick and hard tubes into his stomach, causing him extreme pain. However, not even such brutal tortures could shake his faith in Falun Dafa.

In the beginning of November, 2002 he went to a practitioner's home in Shanxi Province and was illegally arrested by policemen who were waiting there in ambush. After this he was put in secret detention. The police blocked off all information to outsiders, and his family members and I could not get a single word about his situation. Then, in December of 2002 my father-in-law and mother-in-law were suddenly notified to go to Shanxi to claim his body. We could not imagine what kind of brutal tortures and inhuman persecution he had suffered again in Shanxi Province. My in-laws have now lost their only son, my 10-year-old son has lost his dear father, and I have lost my husband. We are in extreme grief, and everyone who knew Ding Lihong is filled with deep sorrow.
There is nothing wrong with believing in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." This in fact should truly be respected. However, people who believe in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" in China are subjected to the most brutal persecution. Hundreds of thousands of good people have been put in prisons, forced labor camps, detention centers, police stations and brainwashing-centers, suffering various inhuman tortures and torments, and countless families and relatives have had to suffer as well.
So many good people are being persecuted and the evil is still at large. We strongly appeal to the International Court of Justice and International Human Rights Organizations to place on file for investigation and prosecution the case of Ding Lihong and each of the other Falun Dafa practitioners who have died from persecution. This is to do justice to them and to bring the leader of the true criminals to justice as well.
