(Minghui.org) Many Dafa practitioners have been harassed and persecuted by the police. Over time, some practitioners’ understanding of how to treat the police have gradually changed. They went from being afraid or resentful, and passively accepting the persecution, to proactively clarifying the truth about the persecution in order to save these police officers. I feel this change came about because we’ve enlightened to the Fa’s principles and let go of our selfishness and human attachments. We were able to improve our understanding by reading the Fa and gradually assimilating to Falun Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Master teaches us to cherish all sentient beings, including the police.
Some practitioners may not realize it, but their thoughts, moral standards and every word and deed are significantly different than non-practitioners’. Instead of shifting blame outward when we face issues, we look within for our own faults. This is a cultivation process of moving from selfishness and self-interest to putting others before oneself, something that is difficult for ordinary people to achieve or even imagine.
I’d like to share a few examples of how, when practitioners maintain righteous thoughts and compassion in the face of persecution and uphold traditional morality, they can move police officers. The police are living beings, and they also came for the Fa. They just have different professions. I feel that the people we interact with are predestined to hear the truth.
My Conversation With a Policeman
Once, when a police officer harassed me over the phone, I realized that he was here to hear the truth. If I couldn’t help him I would have failed him—he’d waited thousands of years to learn about Dafa. I also would have disappointed Master’s expectations, which would be very regrettable. I silently asked Master to help me save him. I realized I must do it in a way that was easy for him to accept.
I explained the injustices my family and I endured during the persecution, and what I did in my work and life. I also told him that Falun Dafa is practiced around the world, and that there is nothing wrong with being a good person. I explained the consequences of participating in the persecution, and asked him to act wisely and use his position as a police officer to protect practitioners.
Although our conversation was brief, my compassion came out and my tears flowed. I talked to him as if he were my child. On the surface, I was expressing my sadness and describing how I was persecuted, but in my heart, I was doing everything I could to save him. I asked Master to help him.
When I spoke, I didn’t think about the outcome, but his attitude changed, and he respected and sympathized with me. I could feel that he was shocked by the persecution cases, and was moved by practitioners’ kindness. From his reaction, I sensed that he was simple, kind and honest. I was really happy for him, and I said that those who treated Dafa practitioners well would have a good future.
In fact, any persecution and harassment cannot change a true practitioner, but the attitude of the police and how they treat practitioners may determine their and their families’ future. Because they are police officers, they have more opportunities to interact with practitioners—however, through the persecution of Falun Dafa, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is not only persecuting practitioners, it is persecuting the police.
Many police officers are kind and can be saved—from the teachings we know they were all once Master’s family, so we cannot push them away. We must put our hearts into finding ways to clarify the truth to them. On the surface, we are seeking their sympathy, but in reality, we are moving them with emotion and using reason to enlighten them. This enables them to understand the truth and they thus avoid being buried with the CCP.
