(Minghui.org) Fuqing Prison in Fujian Province is where most of the male Falun Gong practitioners in the province are incarcerated. In recent months, the prison authorities have ramped up the tactics used on practitioners who remain steadfast in their belief.
Newly-admitted practitioners are first sent to the admission team. During this period, they are not allowed to meet with their families. Regular inmates are usually assigned to different divisions after two months, but Falun Gong practitioners can be held in the admission team indefinitely or taken to the strict management team if they don’t renounce their faith. They are not allowed any visits and can only spend 50 yuan a month on daily necessities.
Below are examples from over the years.
Mr. Lin Wenwei from Xiamen City was tortured until he was in critical condition in November 2010. Covered in bruises, he passed away shortly after he was releaesd.
Mr. You Changliang from Ningde City became extremely weak and lost feeling in his legs in 2012. He was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
When Mr. Zuo Fusheng was serving a six-year term between 2011 and 2017, the inmates beat him regularly, and he became blind in his left eye. He was also handcuffed and hung up by the cuffs for six hours.
Mr. He Pengfei, a military veteran from Fuzhou City, was taken to Fuqing Prison on December 22, 2016, to serve a 5.5-year term. The guards forced him to stand for long hours every day for several months straight. After that, they switched to the squatting torture, starting with one hour the first day and gradually increasing it to more than ten hours every day. A guard once poured cold water over him in the winter.
Mr. Zhang Jing of Fuzhou City was arrested on April 29, 2018, while distributing Falun Gong informational materials. He was sentenced to 5.5 years by the Cangshan District Court on December 13, 2018. He was forced to attend brainwashing sessions in the prison. When he held a hunger strike to protest, the guards force fed him, and he almost died.
Mr. Chen Geng, a teacher in Pingtan County, was sentenced to three years and three months in prison on February 26, 2023, for accessing Twitter. When he refused to renounce his faith, he was held in solitary confinement most of the time. His family wasn’t allowed to visit him or write to him.
