(Minghui.org) A 60-year-old Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province, woman was arrested in February 2025, after living away from home for six years to avoid being persecuted for her faith in Falun Gong. Minghui.org recently confirmed that Ms. Wang Shuxiang has been sentenced to two years and fined 10,000 yuan.
The wrongful conviction of Ms. Wang, born on July 31, 1964, stemmed from an incident on April 6, 2018, when she was reported to the police by a man named Qu Bencai for talking to him about Falun Gong. Before the police showed up, Qu and a driver named Kuang Baojie held Ms. Wang down on the ground. Qu shouted at Ms. Wang, “I will get you sent to prison!”
Moments later, officers Ma Jun and Zhang Chengyong from the Hongxing Village Police Station came and arrested Ms. Wang. She was detained for 15 days and then released on bail.
Ms. Wang was arrested again on October 21, 2019, and taken to the Jixi City First Detention Center. When her family went to the Hongxing Village Police Station to demand her release, the police claimed that the reason they’d arrested Ms. Wang was because she didn’t report to them during her one-year bail as required. They added that they were seeking to get her prosecuted as soon as possible.
Ms. Wang held a hunger strike in the detention center and was released days later on October 29, 2019. To avoid being arrested again, she lived away from home and was put on the police’s wanted list.
On February 11, 2025, after nearly six years of displacement, Ms. Wang was arrested at the home of another practitioner, Ms. Zhou Lidong. The police submitted both Ms. Wang and Ms. Zhou’s cases to the Jidong County Procuratorate, which then indicted them.
Ms. Wang appeared in the Jidong County Court on June 9, 2025. Presiding judge Gai Qiuhai told her that she would get a much lighter sentence if she pleaded guilty. She insisted that she didn’t violate any law by practicing Falun Gong or telling people about it. Her lawyer also entered a not-guilty plea for her.
The judge sentenced Ms. Wang to two years with a 10,000-yuan fine on July 3, 2025.
Minghui.org also confirmed that Ms. Zhou was sentenced to three and a half years, but details about her sentencing aren’t clear.
