(Minghui.org) Ahead of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) 26-year-long persecution of Falun Dafa (Falun Gong), Dafa practitioners held a rally outside the Chinese consulate in Montreal on July 17, 2025, to call for an end to the abuses and to release all detained practitioners. The activity gained attention and support from passersby.

Falun Dafa practitioners hold a rally outside the Chinese consulate on July 17, 2025, to call attention to the CCP’s 26-year-long persecution.

Ms. Yang, spokesperson for the local Falun Dafa Association, said July 20, 1999 is a dark day for China and the world. On that day, former CCP head Jiang Zemin launched a brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners who follow Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. Countless people have been illegally detained, arrested, and sentenced to prison. Some Falun Gong practitioners became disabled from torture and worse yet, were subjected to organ harvesting. Ms. Yang said that July 20 is also a significant day in that it marks the start of the difficult and long process of Falun Gong practitioners around the world standing up against this persecution. Time and again, practitioners have taken to the streets to tell people the facts about the persecution so as to awaken their conscience.

Ms. Yang said that thanks to the continuous, persistent efforts of practitioners, voices of justice around the world have grown increasingly loud—from people signing petitions calling to end the persecution, to governments at all levels condemning the CCP’s human rights abuses.

Passersby at the rally sign the petition to call for an end to the severe human rights abuses in China.

I Hope the Persecution Will End

Zhang Li (alias) from China said, “I know too well how evil the CCP is, and the persecution Falun Gong has gone through all these years.”

He spoke of the unjust treatment that a friend, a Falun Gong practitioner whom he has known for decades, went through. He said that this practitioner is a good person and very capable. She was already a section level CCP official when she was in her 20s. Yet for over 20 years, she was repeatedly persecuted by the regime for refusing to give up her faith. She was fired from her job in public service, her family was broken up, she was thrown into prison four times and detained for a total of 17 years.

Zhang Li said, “This persecution is extremely brutal,” yet he understood the evil nature of the CCP after this long-time friend gave him a copy of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, and software to break through the CCP’s Internet firewall and other materials about Falun Gong. “She is the first person who inspired me to see things differently,” he said.

He also said that before he left China, he was warned on several occasions not to say the “wrong thing.” He said, “The CCP is evil, Chinese people live in terror. It is terrifying. I don’t have courage like Falun Gong practitioners, but I absolutely support them. This brutal suppression must end.”

Thank You for Exposing the Persecution

Ms. Thi Dan Dan and two friends from Vietnam express their support for practitioners.

Three people from Vietnam stopped and listened to the rally. Ms Thi Dan Dan said she was encouraged by practitioners’ efforts to expose the persecution. She said her husband is a doctor and was detained in a concentration camp by the Communist Party in Vietnam and brainwashed. The entire family immigrated to Canada in the 1980s to avoid persecution.

“The whole world should think about it: why are people holding protests here? It is for the freedom of everyone and the whole world. Otherwise, the world will be in danger. The CCP is a threat to humanity. We must eliminate it.

“Thank you, Falun Dafa practitioners, this is a support for victims of Communism. Falun Dafa is kind. I support Falun Dafa.”

I Will Tell People About the Persecution So That It Ends Sooner

Mohamed Ben Salah, a tourist from Tunisia, spoke to a practitioner for a long time.

Mohamed Ben Salah from Tunisia said he will tell people about the persecution so that it will end sooner.

Mohamed Ben Salah said, “Today’s activity leaves a lasting impression on people. The information communicated here should spread in all parts of the world, not only here. I’m from Tunisia, yet we don’t know this is taking place. We will tell everyone and try my best to pass this news widely so as to end the abuses sooner.

“Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance... these three words are remarkable. Is there anything better than this? If we can put these three words into practice, how amazing that would be.”

He signed the petition to stop the persecution and said, “I believe this suppression will not go on for long. It will end for sure.”

Local resident Ms. Magali signed the petition and condemned the CCP’s crimes of organ harvesting. “This is horrible,” she said. “Yet such things continue to exist. It’s unbelievable. If we can offer any assistance, even if it is a signature, we are all for it.”

Magali condemned the CCP for its crimes of organ harvesting.

When she learned that Falun Dafa teaches Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, Magali said, “This is the cornerstone of any political power. A government should uphold these values. The CCP does not follow these principles. It is undoubtedly severe and terrifying to Chinese citizens.”

Tyler, another resident, said that he’s received flyers from practitioners in the past and knew about what was happening in China. “I think Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance is great—you are truthful, kind and good to others. This fundamental human nature,” he said. “But, the Communist Party is a dictator, it doesn’t care about others.”

Tyler signed the petition to show his support for an end to the persecution.

After signing the petition Tyler said, “The persecution is horrible. I hope to stop this abuse.”
