Having Lost Three Family Members to the Persecution of Falun Gong, Tianjin Woman Gets 3 Years for Her Faith

(Minghui.org) A Tianjin woman is set to be admitted to the Tianjin Women’s Prison in August 2025 to serve a three-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Huang Xiuying, 50, was arrested around September 20, 2024, for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. The arresting officers from the Dongli District Domestic Security Division and a local police station took her to the Dongli District Detention Center.

A local court tried Ms. Huang in March 2025 without notifying her family. She was later sentenced to three years. Her loved ones learned of her conviction and scheduled a prison transfer recently.

Ms. Huang is not the only one in her family affected by the persecution of Falun Gong. Her husband, Mr. Yan Jinyou, took up Falun Gong in 2000 after he was diagnosed with incurable late-stage lung cancer. He gradually recovered, but the relentless police harassment eventually worsened his condition. He died in 2013.

Ms. Huang’s mother and two siblings were also repeatedly targeted for practicing Falun Gong. Her older sister, Ms. Huang Xiuyun, died in 2024. Their 84-year-old mother, Ms. Li Sufen, who had been living away from home to avoid persecution, was grief-stricken and became bedridden. She died three months later, around December 2024.

The Huang sisters’ brother was arrested four times for his faith in Falun Gong. He is still living in displacement to avoid further persecution.
