79-Year-Old Hunan Woman Arrested 11th Time for Practicing Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) Ms. Guo Danxia, 79, from Yueyang City, Hunan Province, was arrested for the 11th time because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Guo, a retired accountant of Yueyang City Petroleum Company, was reading the Falun Gong teachings with Ms. Zhang Lanhui at the latter’s home on the afternoon of May 16, 2025, when the police suddenly broke in and seized her. They said a surveillance camera recorded her distributing Falun Gong informational materials in Linxiang City, Hunan Province.

Ms. Guo is being held in the Yueyang City Detention Center. Her latest arrest was preceded by a prison term of three years and two months between March 18, 2020 and May 17, 2023. Before her prison sentence she was sent to a psychiatric hospital in June 2020 and forced to take psychiatric drugs even though she was not mentally ill. She began to experience shortness of breath and insomnia, and was often in a delirious state. See the first related report for details of her past persecution.

Those who know Ms. Guo can’t understand why such a law-abiding citizen is being persecuted again for practicing her faith. She and her late husband, Mr. Wang Xuguang, had a blended family. She helped raise his three children. After he became ill and paralyzed, his children seldom came to visit him. Ms. Guo took meticulous care of him.

After Mr. Wang passed away, his children fought for the couple’s house and other assets. Being a Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Guo did not fight back and moved out of the house with her son. Mr. Wang’s unmarried daughter, who had a severe illness, then moved into the house. That daughter died a few years later and her two siblings demanded to take over the house. Ms. Guo signed the house ownership transfer agreement without hesitation. Her own son has to work two jobs to make a living. With his mother in detention again, he struggles to care for his two daughters – a fourth-grader and a first-grader.
