(Minghui.org) The Shenyang City Intermediate Court in Liaoning Province ruled on April 15, 2025 to uphold the four-year prison sentence of a local woman for her faith in Falun Gong. She submitted a motion to the intermediate court on June 5, requesting a revocation of the appeals ruling and a retrial of her case.

Ms. Wang Wei, 68, was arrested on July 12, 2024, by officers of the Sujiatun District Domestic Security Division. She stood trial at the Hunnan District Court on November 22, 2024 and was sentenced to four years with a 2,000-yuan fine on December 26, 2024. She filed an appeal with the Shenyang City Intermediate Court on January 17, 2025. Her case was accepted on March 7, with Judge Jiang Hui in charge. Judges Yu Xiaowei and Song Yongzheng, assistant to judges Jin Liang and clerk Zheng Jinling were assigned to assist in the appeals case.

Ms. Wang’s non-lawyer family defender, Lin (alias), requested to review the case file, but judge Jiang and assistant Jin only allowed him to see a portion of it. They also refused to disclose who else was assisting Jiang. Lin found out about judges Yu and Song’s involvement later in the process.

Lin submitted a request for an open hearing, but judge Jiang didn’t respond. He instead demanded to see Lin’s written defense statements and threatened to use Ms. Wang’s appeals as the defense statement if Lin failed to submit the requested document.

Lin called Jiang on April 9, 2025, requesting an open hearing. The latter replied, “There is sufficient evidence that this case did not meet the requirements for an open hearing.”

Jiang ruled against Ms. Wang on April 15, 2025, without holding an open hearing or receiving the defense statement from Lin.

Given Jiang’s violation of legal procedures, Lin filed a complaint against him and his assistant Jin on April 17, 2025. He also helped Ms. Wang filed a motion with the Shenyang City Intermediate Court on June 5, 2025, requesting the agency revoke its ruling and order the lower court to hold a retrial.

Prior to her latest persecution episode, Ms. Wang was sentenced to one year in prison in 2015, also for practicing Falun Gong.
