(Minghui.org) After a 55-year-old Suizhong County, Liaoning Province resident was sentenced to 14 months for his faith in Falun Gong, the prosecution appealed to give him a heavier term.
Mr. Yang Jiangwei, a former employee of Liangjin Dayang Electric Power Installation Company, was arrested on April 19, 2024, after he was seen putting up a self-adhesive sticker reading “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance [Falun Gong’s core tenets] is good” on a utility pole. He appeared in the Lianshan District Court on December 26, 2024 and January 16, 2025, before being sentenced to 14 months and fined 7,000 yuan on February 5, 2025. Judges Wang Yueqiu, Zhao Jingxin and Zhang Lixin signed his verdict.
Prosecutors Du Yang and Zhang Xiaojin of the Lianshan District Procuratorate filed a protest with the Huludao City Intermediate Court on February 13, 2025, stating that “the Lianshan District Court made mistakes in evaluating the facts and improperly applied the law, resulting in an unusually light sentence for Yang Jiangwei.”
Over the past several years, the Huludao City Intermediate Court has never actually held a hearing for any Falun Gong cases. Judge Zhu Dan, who has been assigned to the protest case, also indicated that she would make a ruling without holding a hearing.
Prior to Mr. Yang’s latest round of persecution, he served three forced labor terms and a ten-year prison term totaling 17.5 years. He was only able to spend a little more than seven years with his family over the past 26 years.
