(Minghui.org) Ms. Guo Yuexia, 61, from Qian’an City, Hebei Province remains detained for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Guo (born in October 1963), went to neighboring Lulong County (which is under the administration of Qinhuangdao City in Hebei Province) on March 16, 2025 to distribute Falun Gong informational materials. Three people reported her to police and she was arrested by officers from the Lulong County Police Department. They took her to the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center. Her family is not allowed to visit her or deliver items for her. They can only make deposits into her commissary account.

This is not the first time Ms. Guo has been targeted for her faith, which she credits for restoring her health. She developed various ailments in her 30s, including rheumatic scleritis (an eye disease), chronic pharyngitis, kidney disease, heart disease, and gynecological diseases. Her eye disease was so rare that there were only four known cases in China. Any weather change caused her eyes to hurt and she was eventually at risk of becoming blind. After she took up Falun Gong, however, her eyes returned to normal in just six months and her other symptoms also disappeared.

Ms. Guo held firm to her faith after the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999 and she was repeatedly targeted.

Persecution Suffered While a Heilongjiang Resident

Ms. Guo used to live in Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province. Officer Li Gang began harassing her soon after the persecution started. She went to Beijing to appeal in December 1999 and was taken back by Yichun police, including Yang Xuejian and Jing Xiangguang. Yang extorted her 1,000 yuan on the way back to Heilongjiang Province. She was detained for 15 days.

After Ms. Guo was released, she was barred from running her business. She returned to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong at the end of 2000 and was arrested again. She was held at the Harbin City Drug Rehabilitation Center for a year, during which time the police sold her shop but did not inform her, causing her to lose more than 500,000 yuan.

Ms. Guo was arrested again in April 2002 after being reported for writing “Falun Dafa is good” on a wall. She was given one and a half years of forced labor at the Harbin City Drug Rehabilitation Center. She was forced to do hard labor for more than ten hours a day. The guards did not allow her to eat or sleep whenever she failed to finish her quota. During her detention, the new shop which she started before her 2002 arrest had to be shut down, causing her a financial loss of 120,000 yuan.

Persecution Suffered While a Hebei Resident

Ms. Guo and her family moved to Qian’an City, Hebei Province after she finished her forced labor term. She and 13 other Falun Gong practitioners were arrested at a private residence on the night of September 5, 2011. Captain Jiang Tonghua of the Qian’an City Domestic Security Division led the group arrests.

Ms. Guo’s home was raided afterwards, with her two computers worth a total of 8,000 yuan, and 12,800 yuan in paper currency which had Falun Gong messages were confiscated.

Officer Pu Yonglai and another man lifted Ms. Guo’s shirt to shock her with electric batons during the interrogation. Her body was covered in blisters. They didn’t stop until she passed out. Pu later also slapped her face, knocking out one of her teeth.

After 15 days of detention, Ms. Guo was moved to a brainwashing center. Guard Yang Yulin pulled a big chunk of hair out of her head and also slapped her face. Yang next stuffed dirty socks into her mouth. Five heavy-build men simultaneously shocked her with multiple electric batons until she fainted.

Ms. Guo’s family posed a cash bond of 20,000 yuan 25 days later and got her out of the brainwashing center.

Vice captain Mu Deyu of the Qian’an City Domestic Security Division led a group of officers and knocked on Ms. Guo’s door a bit past 6 a.m. on September 8, 2020. They claimed to be from the property management office. She saw through their tricks and refused to open the door. They tried a master key but failed to open the door because Ms. Guo locked the door from inside.

The police used a hacksaw blade to try to pick the lock. The whole process lasted nearly two hours, during which time Ms. Guo kept urging them to stop persecuting law-abiding citizens like her. They refused to listen and she managed to escape before they opened the door. They arrested her son, who did not practice Falun Gong, and threatened to put him in jail.

Ms. Guo turned herself in on September 14, 2020, because she did not want her son to suffer. The Zunhua Court sentenced her to two years and fined her 5,000 yuan on May 25, 2021.
