(Minghui.org) A 59-year-old resident of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, is facing trial for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Zhong Fangqiong, a former transport company owner, was arrested on July 7, 2024, by Dafengnan Police Station officers. She is being held in the Chengdu City Detention Center. Her family learned in March 2025 that her case now rests with the Xindu District Court. It is unclear when she was indicted.

This is not the first time that Ms. Zhong has been targeted for her faith, which she took up in March 1999 and credits for curing her congenital large cavernous hemangioma (abnormal growth of blood vessels) and severe cerebral ischemia. She has been arrested numerous times and twice sentenced to prison. She served seven years from September 2007 to September 2014 and another four years from October 2016 to October 2020. She was brutally tortured during her two prison terms and other detentions. See the related reports for details of her past persecution.

Ms. Zhong moved in with her brother after she completed her second prison sentence in 2020. The police, government officials, and community members kept harassing her at her brother’s home. Most recently, they called her brother on June 2, 4, and 13, 2023, ordering him to kick his sister and her son out.

After Ms. Zhong moved in with her son, community worker Hu Jianguo called the son and ordered him to arrange for his mother to have virtual meetings with them every day.

To keep the authorities from harassing her brother and son, Ms. Zhong went into hiding, only to be arrested on July 7, 2024 and indicted for her faith again.
